A prayer to be changed from sinners into saints, Mary: Day 119

year_with_mary_alphonsus_1A prayer to be changed from sinners into saints

Is Mary less concerned for sinners on earth, now that she has left them behind for a glorious throne in heaven? Not at all, St. Alphonsus insists. She loves us now more than ever.

O great, exalted, and most glorious Lady, prostrate at the foot of your throne we venerate you from this valley of tears. We rejoice at your immense glory, with which our Lord has enriched you. And now that you are enthroned as Queen of Heaven and Earth, don’t forget us, your poor servants.

Don’t disdain, from the high throne on which you reign, to cast your eyes of mercy on us miserable creatures. The nearer you are to the Source of graces, the greater is the abundance in which you procure those graces for us. In heaven you see more plainly our miseries, so you must have compassion on us and help us all the more.

Make us your faithful servants on earth, so that we may one day bless you in heaven. On this day of your coronation, on which you were made Queen of the Universe, we also consecrate ourselves to your service. In the midst of your great joy, console us also by accepting us as your servants.

You are our mother. Most sweet Mother, most amiable Mother, your altars are surrounded by many people. Some ask to be cured of a disorder, some to be relieved in their needs, some for an abundant harvest, and some for success in litigation. But we ask you for graces more pleasing to your heart.

Obtain for us that we may be humble, detached from the world, resigned to the divine will. Obtain for us the holy fear of God, a good death, and paradise. Lady, change us from sinners into saints. Work this miracle, which will redound more to your honor than if you restored sight to a thousand blind persons, or raised someone from the dead.

Most beautiful Queen, we have no pretensions to see you on earth, but we do desire to go to see you in paradise. It is you who must obtain for us this grace, and we hope for it with confidence. —St. Alphonsus Liguori, The Glories of Mary

IN GOD’S PRESENCE, CONSIDER . . .
In what ways does Mary’s exalted position in heaven make her better able to assist us on earth?

CLOSING PRAYER
From a prayer of St. Alphonsus: Through you, Mary, I hope for salvation. I don’t ask for riches, honors, or earthly goods. I seek only the grace of God, love toward your Son, the accomplishment of his will, and his heavenly kingdom, so that I may love him eternally.
