We are the Earth and We are Burning Too

We are the Earth and We are Burning Too January 5, 2020

The Earth is burning. It has been burning and burning — for decades, for centuries. Fires with ash and smoke. Fires that cry of war. Fires that raze and level. Fires that leapt into the quiet places. The nighttime. The places that were supposed to be safe.

The Earth’s body.

Our body.

If we are the kiss between Earth and Sky, we are burning too. We are falling into the places that we nightmared about. It is quiet. It is loud. It is terrifying.

All of the words and songs and promises of being the ones we’ve been waiting for feel large and looming.

This is not a news cycle or a quick flash.

We are not separate from the land that burns.

What we lose in the cowardice of leaders, we will lose forever.

The tugs on the web of life will impact us all.

The Earth’s Heart, Our Heart

The heart beat begins in the deep chambers, the ones of minerals and flesh. The beats that speed with anger, with fear, with desperation when it seems no one is listening.

The heart that is the center. The drive. The spell.

Inspiration. Different ways. Creative action.

Invite/implore your heart to movement. Gather up the energy of rage and restlessness to power up a spell of change. Your spell might look like a sigil. It might look like a song that rises across tears.

It might look like calling on all of the ones who are supposed to listen to LISTEN. To know this is not a drill. This is not a practice round. This is the future.

This is not a time for perfection — it is a time for action. In any of the ways that you can. That you must.

This is the battle cry that echoes from ancestors and sinks into the descendants who will hear the stories of what we did. And what we did not.

As Witches and magickmakers, we know how to transmute energy, how to take the ick and turn it into fuel.

  • Grieve as you need.
  • Bleed with rage as you must.
  • Share what you know.
  • Help those you can.
  • Turn toward the truth.
  • Know you are not alone.
  • Gather your people.
  • Sing songs to the water, to the earth, to the past, to the present, to the future.

Take all of this and do what you know how to do. Take your magick, your resources, your beauty, and your fierceness. Take it all and weave it into the web of life that tugs at you, tugs for you to answer the call.

And know that it’s coming for you too.

The fires of greed burn at our heels, Witches.

Wands up.

About Irisanya Moon
I’m a Witch. I’m a writer. I’m a priestess, teacher, drummer, feminist, and initiate in the Reclaiming tradition. I serve the gods, my community, and the Earth. I’ve called myself a Witch for nearly 20 years, and my life has been infused with magick. I am interested in shifting stories – the ones we tell ourselves and the ones that are told about us. I’m continuously inspired to engage as the storyteller and the story, the words and the spaces between. I am a devotee of Aphrodite, Hecate, the Norns, and Iris. I seek to find love and to inspire love by reminding us we are not alone, while also meeting myself at the crossroads, holding the threads of life, and bringing down messages from the gods. I am a Witch. You can read more about the author here.
