The Horizons of the Possible The word culture is huge and vague at the same time, and it’s easy to misuse. People use culture to refer to a nebulous set of beliefs and values that surround us like the atmosphere, omnipresent and invisible. It’s like the water fishes swim in: all around them, but taken for granted. When we think of culture in this vague way, our engagement with culture is also vague.
