4 Prayers For The Sick

4 Prayers For The Sick June 17, 2015

Here are 4 prayers for someone that you know is sick or if you are sick that you can hopefully use based upon biblical principles.

Praying for the Sick

Of course it is good and biblical to pray for the sick as James writes “Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven” (James 5:14-15) since “The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working” (James 5:16b). There is a command then that if you or someone you know is sick that they are to request prayers for their healing. A righteous person’s prayer are very effective and we cannot simply do nothing but if we can do nothing more than pray for the sick person, that we must do. Sometimes we can do nothing more than pray for the sick but we can do nothing greater either.

Unsure of the Source

Lord God my father, I pray for my family member, friend, or co-worker who is sick and ask that You mercifully intervene on their behalf. I don’t know the reason nor do I understand the purpose of this sickness but I know that You do know and I trust You. You are sovereign over all things and I ask in faith in Jesus’ mighty name to heal this person and show us the cause of this sickness that perhaps we can address the issue because You may be trying to point out something to us that I or they need to know about. You use all things to work out for our good (rom 8:28) and I have every reason to trust all that You allow and commit this request into Your hands and again I ask for this person’s healing in the strong name of the Son of God, the Lord Jesus Christ in Who’s precious name I pray, amen.

Accident or Injury

Oh righteous Father, we are weak, frail, feeble humans and subject to accidents and prone to injuries and in this case my family member, friend, or co-worker (or even myself) have been injured and I pray that You speed the healing process, that you guide the physicians hands and help this person’s recovery in Your due time and for Your glory. You allow these things to happen to us and I need to learn to trust You in all things and maybe that’s what You are trying to teach me/us. I know that You know when even a tiny sparrow falls to the ground are to You, we are of far more value to You than the birds of the air (Matt 6:26) so please I beg You to intervene at this time on behalf of this person and for the glory of the name above all names, Jesus Christ, I pray, amen.

The Sustainer of Life

Lord Father God, You are the sustainer of those on their deathbed for You say in Your Word that “The LORD sustains them on their sickbed and restores them from their bed of illness” (Psalm 41:3) and Psalm 107:20 also says that you send out your Word and heal and so I ask You to please send Your healing Word to your servant and that You drive out all infirmity and sickness from his/her body and help them to a speedy recovery and restore them to full health. Help us to remove the doubt that often burdens our hearts and place our complete trust in You. With You all things are possible (Mark 10:27) and only You as our Creator know exactly what is wrong, even if the doctors do not, as You know our frame and how we are made and are but dust and how our frame is made (Psalm 103:14)for nothing is hidden from You. There is power in Your Word and we can trust every promise You make so may Your will be done in this person’s life and it is to the glory of the name that I pray in and that is Jesus Christ the Lord of glory, amen.

God’s Sovereignty

Lord, my precious Father, all our times are in Your hands (Psalm 31:15) and every one of our days are determined; you have decreed the number of our months and have set limits that we cannot exceed (Job 14:5) and this knowledge is too wonderful for me to comprehend. You are the Mighty One Who rules over all things in the universe and nothing is too hard for You (Jer 32:17) so I ask in the power of the Son of God’s Name to place this burden on You for it is too heavy for me/us . I pray for Your will to be done and ask You to wrap Your loving, tender, caring hands around this person to know that anything that happens is never outside of Your will and I commit this all unto You and in the glory of the great name of Your Son, Jesus Christ I pray, amen.

Conclusion

Prayer is commanded, it is effectual, it is powerful, but only because of the omnipotent God that we serve and Who we worship. Are you or someone you know sick or injured? Cry out to God and He will hear and answer your prayer but in His will which is always perfect and far beyond what we know to be best. Trust Him, cry out to Him, and He will not only hear you but answer you but in the way that He sees best.
