Here are seven Bible verses for those who feel insecure in life.
Psalm 139:14 “I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.”
The way the psalmist describes it, we’re all made in specific ways, and like snowflakes, no two of us are alike, because I think God loves variety. Just look at His creatures or the variety of flowers or the vast differences in the earth’s many different locations. God doesn’t make mistakes. He intentionally created you just as it pleased Him and so there is no reason to feel insecure about your body or looks. God doesn’t see the way humans do. You are just perfect in the way you are made.
First Samuel 16:7 “But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.”
When Jesse was passing all of his sons before God to see which would be the next king of Israel, he passed all of them before Samuel finally “thought, “Surely the Lord’s anointed is before him.” But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart” (1st Sam 16:6-7) “Then Samuel said to Jesse, “Are all your sons here?” And he said, “There remains yet the youngest, but behold, he is keeping the sheep.” And Samuel said to Jesse, “Send and get him, for we will not sit down till he comes here” (1st Sam 16:11). The smallest and least likely, David, became Israel’s greatest king, so don’t let your insecurity be based upon your appearance or position in life or even wealth, because God sees the heart as the most important thing of all.
Second Corinthians 10:12 “Not that we dare to classify or compare ourselves with some of those who are commending themselves. But when they measure themselves by one another and compare themselves with one another, they are without understanding.”
I think we all do harm to ourselves when we start comparing ourselves with others. We can look at others and easily feel superior to them while for others, inferior, but for the Christian, Jesus Christ is the template to which we all must strive to be like and not what we see in others. For one thing, we only see the outside and not what’s inside their heart. We can’t compare ourselves with their heart and who they really are because we can’t see it like God can. Don’t worry if you feel that you don’t measure up to others; Jesus Christ is the gold standard by which we should compare ourselves too.
Philippians 4:6-7 “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Does your insecurity come from financial concerns? Is it a chronic health condition that is causing you concern about the future? God says do not be anxious about any of it because for one thing, worry doesn’t do anything to solve the problem, and it doesn’t allow us to place this burden in the hands of God when we choose to carry it around ourselves. When you can let it go and trust God, it’s a lot easier to have peace of mind and this peace can guard your hearts and minds, day and night.
First Corinthians 6:11 “And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.”
This is basically Paul telling us to, “Remember where we came from and what we used to be in God’s sight” before repentance and saving faith. We had the need to be washed or plunged beneath the blood of the Lamb to be made whiter than snow (Psalm 51:7) and sanctified by God, which means to be set apart for holy use or God’s use. Finally, we had to be justified by Jesus Christ by the conviction of the Holy Spirit. Without this, no one will see God except as their Righteous Judge (Rev 20:12-15). For those who are justified, they shall see God (Rev 22:4) as He will dwell with them (Rev 21:3).
Philippians 4:12-13 “I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. I can do all things through him who strengthens me.”
Paul never expressed concern about his own needs because he had to learn to be content. Did you catch that? Paul had to learn how to be content and he must have learned by experience through his many deprivations, but he still wrote, “my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus” (Phil 4:19).
Matthew 10:29-31 “Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. But even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.”
If you were looking at your value to God, then Jesus gives us a great example of that in Matthew 10. Even sparrows, the cheapest of all birds, are regarded as having value by God. Even though they might be regarded by mankind as the least of God’s creatures, they don’t go unnoticed if one falls to the ground, meaning they died. You and I are far and away more valuable to God “than many sparrows” and notice that just as God sees the sparrow fall, and so in such detail, He knows everything about you, down to the number of hairs on your head.
Conclusion
If you or know someone you know is feeling insecure, ask them or yourself this question: The Bible says nothing can separate us from the love of God (Rom 8:35) so do you trust that truth more or your feelings more? The obvious answer is the Bible because human feelings are one of the shallowest, most undependable parts of the human mind. They are not very reliable or trustworthy compared to objective truths. A few centuries ago, most people believed the earth was flat but their feelings never altered the fact that it wasn’t. The point is, don’t believe or trust your feelings over what God’s Word says, like where Paul wrote, “I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Rom 8:38-39).
