I wish to commend to you David deSilva’s new (2014) Baylor Handbook on the Greek Text of Galatians (Baylor). This whole series is excellent and very useful for students and scholars who want a guide to the Greek NT. deSilva goes above and beyond the call of duty by not simply commenting on grammar and syntax, but also delving into the historical context of Galatians and briefly touching on theological issues. In many ways, then, this is a precursor to his... Read more

Very happy to note that this month’s (May 2015) free Logos book is N.T. Wright’s handy little devotional book called The Lord and His Prayer. I am teaching a course on prayer next year and I have found this book helpful in my preparation. Also, for $1, you can add his Following Jesus: Biblical Reflection on Christian Discipleship. I have used Following Jesus as a course textbook for undergrads in the past and many found it insightful and edifying. Enjoy! Read more

Last week I posted a contest to win Peter Oakes’ new Galatians commentary (Baker, 2015; Paideia series). You had to tweet the message of Galatians in a clever way using the hashtags #WWPT and #Galatians. We had nearly 30 participants, many good entries! The WINNER is: “Jesus crucified, flesh fossilized. Peter petrified, ate with circumcised. Law victimized, now Spirit-faith-love emphasized.” It is accurate and rhymes! Thank you Jeremy Falk. You can contact me with your mailing address through my work email... Read more

Alright folks – I got an extra copy of Peter Oakes’ brand new Galatians commentary (Baker, 2015) and I am giving it away for free. But wait a second, this is a contest. Here are the rules: #1: What would Paul Tweet? Make your own summary “tweet” of Galatians and Tweet it. Accurate summaries are decent. Clever summaries of Galatians are better! (No cheating by linking Twitter to a blog, website, etc. to buy more characters!) #2: Use these two hashtags in your tweet –... Read more

Not long ago, Prof. Peter Oakes’ new Galatians commentary (Paideia, Baker) arrived on my desk. I was elated because I had a chance to read Oakes’ manuscript in full last year when I was teaching an exegesis course on Galatians – it is a delight to see the final product. I am not going to do an extended review, but let me say, as someone who has read every single word of this fine volume, that it is a “must-have.” To... Read more

I announced recently the release of the Luke volume in the Paideia commentary series, by author Dr. Mikeal Parsons. Dr. Parsons was kind enough to answer some questions about his commentary and his research in general. You can find a generous 50+ page free excerpt here.  NKG: You have worked on Luke-Acts for many years and have distinguished yourself as an expert. How did you first come to be interested in Luke-Acts? MP: From an early age, I found Luke’s portrait... Read more
