10. S.E.X.: The All-You-Need-To-Know Progressive Sexuality Guide to Get You Through High School and College
by Heather Corinna
I have to admit, I haven’t read this book in its entirety. However, I’ve read most of its content on its sister website Scarleteen, which is my go-to website for comprehensive, inclusive sex ed info (seriously…check it out). This is the book I wish was handed to every teenager. It has sections running through every form of contraception and a buffet of gender and sexual orientation info, to sexual healthcare for every gender, and, one of my faves, lots of info about healthy vs. unhealthy relationships. I guarantee that there’s something in this book for everyone.
Dr. Jeana Jorgensen studied folklore at Berkeley under Alan Dundes, going on to complete her MA and PhD in folklore at Indiana University. She specializes in narrative folklore (particularly fairy tales), dance, body art, feminism and queer theory, and folklore in literature.
She splits her time between teaching college courses in anthropology, folklore, and gender studies, and working in the field of adult sex education as a scholar, teacher, and writer. She blogs about folklore, culture, and sex at Foxy Folklorist.
