I suspect that this is grandstanding by the plaintiffs’ attorney:

I expect that he wanted publicity for his case (and, just possibly, for himself).  And he’s getting it.

I don’t much like playing along, but, if you don’t know about this, you quite possibly should.  Some of the more hostile critics of the Church and of Mormonism are already celebrating and salivating.
