“Just as knowledge of the principles of geometry enables a man to measure distant suns and other movements while seated in his observatory, so a knowledge of The Principle of Correspondence enables Man to reason intelligently from the known to the unknown. Studying the monad, he understands the archangel.” – The Kybalion

***WARNING: KINDA T.M.I.***

One day my daughter, then the precocious age of four, barged her way into the bathroom as I was changing my pad…ahem…sanitary napkin… She watched as I unwrapped and unfolded a new one and placed it in my pantaloons. (I had to compensate for the ew factor somewhere!) Her curiosity naturally produced a simple question, to which I, naturally, provided a complex answer.

“Mommy! What’s THAT?”, she exclaimed, using her little almond eyes to point in reference to.

Alright. Its crunch-time. C’mon Mom! Give an intelligent, non-gross-sounding answer. Mama didn’t raise no fool, so don’t make it too kiddie like, but not so much that she won’t understand.

“It’s a pad. Women put them in their panties during their menstrual cycle to keep themselves clean and dry.”

She seemed to be “in her head” for a moment, then she proceeded to rummage through the drawers for some barrettes. Score! I had effectively answered a seemingly awkward question and quenched her curiosity, at least for that round. Or, so I thought. No sooner than I had finished my mental victory lap, she turned it up a notch. Funnily enough, she did so by breaking things down.

She turned and looked at me and asked, or told me, rather, “So…it’s like a diapie…but for ladies?”

I took pause for a moment and smiled, “Yes, baby girl! That’s exactly right!”

I chuckled for a long time afterwards. She was so content with herself, and I was so very proud. At first glance, the sharing of this little anecdote may not be very ladylike, but I’ll be darned if the experience didn’t teach me what Albert Einstein meant when he said, “If you can’t explain it to a six year old, you don’t understand it yourself!

Getting to the basics in life often yields the greatest rewards and, in this case, it yields some giggles too!

Blessed Be
