We finally have a huge supporter of law enforcement in the White House and I couldn’t be more enthusiastic about the next four years. President Trump said early on that he would support the police and he is making good on that promise.

I remember during the campaign watching some of the other candidates ride the fence on police support but Trump was unambiguous; he went all in. He understands that we are on the front lines of the rule of law in this country.

Trump’s short time in office has already proven to be a night and day difference from his predecessor. Former President Obama was an echo chamber for the cop haters and their anti-police rhetoric. That really damaged this profession and the reputation of officers. Obama’s attitude reinforced the loss of trust from the community and those of us who swore to protect and serve them. But that trust is going to come back under the new administration.

Yes, it will take time, but rest assured we now have a president who has promised the resources and support we need. And what’s more, we have an attorney general in my personal friend Jeff Sessions who will stand behind us, unlike Eric Holder and Loretta Lynch, who reversed the roles, making cops the bad guys and criminals the victims.

Lynch’s investigations into police departments resulted in retraining law enforcers in deescalation and carrying on a “dialogue” with the criminal community all the while, we were under attack. This weak approach put targets on the backs of cops and resulted in more injuries and deaths in the line of duty. President Trump and Attorney General Sessions will get rid of this insanity and put us back on track to law and order in this country.
