What this groom did at the reception shows what married life is about

A big h/t to Father Richard Heilman, who posted this stunning image (from RehmannPhotography.com) on his Facebook page with the explanation:

 BREATHTAKING!!

Here’s a better tradition than the Hokey-Pokey. “Put your right foot out, so I can wash it for you!”

Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Shannon.

Personally, I’ve never seen this done before: the groom kneeling before his bride at the reception to wash her feet.  (Unclear if the bride also did that for the groom. I’d like to think so.)

“If, therefore, the master and teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash one another’s feet. I have given you a model to follow, so that as I have done for you, you should also do.”

A commenter to the original post mentioned something similarly meaningful she witnessed at another wedding:  the couple donned white robes to dance to “The Servant Song.”

Will you let me be your servant
Let me be as Christ to you
Pray that I might have the grace
To let me be your servant too

We are pilgrims on the journey
We are brothers on the road
We are here to help each other
Walk the mile and bear the load

I will hold the Christ light for you
In the night time of your fear
I will hold my hand out to you
Speak the the peace you long to hear.

I will weep when you are weeping
When you laugh, I’ll laugh with you
I will share your joy and sorrow
Till we’ve seen this journey through.

When we sing to God in heaven
We shall find such harmony
Born to all we’ve known together
Of Christ’s love and agony.

Footnote:  As appropriate as this may be for a reception, it isn’t something that should be done during the wedding itself.  There’s no accommodation in the ritual for anything like this.
