Just in time to celebrate St. Ephrem the deacon… 2016-09-30T17:08:13-04:00

…four men will be ordained deacons on his feast, 9 June, in Sioux City.

Pictured above, from a recent retreat: Dan Carney, Holy Trinity Parish, Fort Dodge; John Rudd, St. Patrick’s Parish, Estherville; Father Brent Lingle; Jorge Fernandez, Cathedral of Epiphany Parish; and Paul Kestel, St. Mary’s Parish, Storm Lake.

Soon-to-be Deacon John Rudd dropped me a line on Facebook and noted:

When Pope Paul VI re-established, the Permanent Diaconate, he did it on the Feast of St. Ephrem. This year marks the 45th Anniversary. Father Brent Lingle, Director of Worship for the Diocese, was the Retreat Director. The 2012 Cohort includes two firsts. Dan Carney will be the oldest ordained deacon in the State of Iowa at 68 years old. Jorge Fernandez will be the first Hispanic Deacon in the Diocese of Sioux City.

Congratulations and good wishes to all the men about to be ordained.  You’ll be in my prayers!
