We Are the Earth ~ A Spring Chant

When my friend John Mirassou and I used to host a chant group, we usually started by reminding people that there are few stages in coming to the big chant juju:

1. We are attentive, trying to learn the words and tune.
2. We get it!  And sing along merrily for a while until…
3. We get bored and sorely tempted to just stop because what’s the point?  But we must keep going because…
4. We transcend the boredom!  Self-consciousness slips away.  And here’s where the true power of the Chant comes forth.

The most important thing is to not stop until it gets juicy and strong!  Stage 3 is a powerful deterrent, but don’t lose faith!

I wrote the following chant quite a few years ago and today feels like a good day to sing it.  And here’s a highly unprofessional recording so you can learn the tune.  Enjoy!

We are the Earth

Awaiting the sunrise

We are the seed

Deep within the Earth

We are the sun

Quickening the seed

and we are new life rising in rebirth!
