David Brockman has a long article in the Texas Observer about the influence of Christian dominionists in Texas politics. I was happy to see that he made a distinction between what he terms “hard” and “soft” dominionism because I think there’s an important distinction there.
Glenn Beck had Paul Blair, one of the most extreme of the wingnuts in Oklahoma, on his TV show and Blair made the absolutely bizarre declaration that ancient Israel in the Bible was a “constitutional republic.” He clearly has no idea what that phrase means at all.
David Barton may be really, really bad at making accurate statements, but the man knows how to push a narrative that his incredibly dull audience will eat up with a spoon. So he lies and says that he was attacked by academics for his book The Jefferson Lies because they hate America and reject “American exceptionalism.”
Eric Metaxas has a new book out entitled If You Can Keep It: The Forgotten Promise of American Liberty. The title, of course, is taken from Ben Franklin’s famous reply that the Constitution had created “a republic, if you can keep it.” But it looks like just another pack of Christian Nation lies.
It’s always exciting when David Barton invents a new lie. This time it’s about women in combat. He claims that 90% of women in combat come back with PTSD while only 10% of men do. Oh, and he allegedly got this “fact” from an unnamed two-star general. Warren Throckmorton has the details:

Self-declared prophet of God Glenn Beck, who continually claims that he’s never wrong and has predicted everything that has happened for the last 25 years, has a real problem with the truth. David Barton likes taking life lessons from the Bible. Of course, he takes some incredibly stupid lessons from it. On his radio show recently, he said that the concept of adolescence is unbiblical, that you’re either a child or an adult and that age 13 is the dividing line.
Bill Federer is sort of a poor man’s David Barton. His columns, made up of almost nothing but isolated quotes ripped from their context, are reprinted in the Worldnetdaily. His latest column is entitled “Here’s proof Thomas Jefferson was a Christian.” It is every bit as dishonest as you would expect.
Professional liar and fake historian David Barton is starting a school of government at Charis Bible College in Colorado and he has yet again stated that it will be based on Seven Mountains Dominionism, which teaches that Christians must take over every aspect of society, including the government, to create a theocracy.
I always have a good laugh when the fundies get to ranting about the evils of Disney movies and how they’re corrupting our kids and teaching them witchcraft and all that rot. David Barton says that by using animals who can talk and think, they’re encouraging children to worship pagan gods:
