I’d never heard of Bethany Blankley before, but she’s “a conservative political analyst and columnist who regularly appears on Fox News Radio.” She has a new article at the Christian Post that makes arguments so stupid that David Barton himself might find them embarrassing (though she borrows a lot from him). Last Wednesday I debated Dr. Tim Schmig on the question of whether the constitution was based upon Biblical principles for CFI Michigan. The turnout was amazing, the 4th largest crowd we’ve ever had, and the debate went pretty much exactly as I expected. The debate was civil and amiable — Tim was nothing but a gracious gentleman over the last few months as we’ve planned this — but I think any objective observer would conclude that I got the best of him in this debate.

In what may be the most ridiculous religious argument ever, the Chinese government is demanding that the Dalai Lama reincarnate when he dies. The Dalai Lama — good golfer, the Lama, but not a good tipper — has said that he will not do so as long as China continues to occupy Tibet.

We’re used to some seriously daffy claims from David Barton and his radio co-host Rick Green, but the one they launched into on their show on Monday is particularly baffling. They seem to think that Obama and Kerry won’t fight against the terrorists (you know, the ones they’re bombing the shit out of right now) because they support reproductive rights.

Eddie Hyatt, the author of this profoundly silly article in Charisma News that echoes most of David Barton’s more absurd claims, calls himself a historian. Like Barton, however, he has no credentials at all in the field (his degrees are in divinity, from Regent University, and “Pentecostal-Charismatic Studies” from Oral Roberts University). Alex Songe pointed me to this interview with Cary Solomon and Chuck Konzelman, the screenwriters for the movie God’s Not Dead.
