The Christian right loves to call people contradictory things. Somehow, in their warped minds, President Obama manages to be a Christian, a Muslim and an atheist all at the same time. And David Barton now bizarrely calls Sen. Harry Reid a Mormon atheist.
Even in today’s GOP, the Texas Republican Party is particularly extreme. The state party that once had David Barton as its vice-chairman has been revamping its platform and, predictably, they’ve added some seriously absurd planks. Like wanting to elect judges but not senators.
Ted Cruz’ father, Rafael, is going to be a real problem for him if he runs for president. He loves the spotlight and he has kept up an unstoppable stream of bizarre and extremist statements for years now. Speaking in Massachusetts recently, he dropped a bunch of little nuggets of stupid.
Glenn Beck did his best David Barton impersonation once again on his radio show, declaring that “thirty percent of everything in our founding documents comes from one book, the Book of Deuteronomy.” He can’t even keep the lies straight in his head anymore.
Tom DeLay recently claimed that “God created this nation [and] that He wrote the Constitution.” That’s a monumentally stupid thing to say, but he’s not backing down. And he went on the radio show of David Barton, who lies about history more than any man alive, to offer an equally ridiculous defense of his claim:
Russell Moore is the guy who replaced Richard Land as the head of the Southern Baptist Convention’s Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission. In some ways he’s been an upgrade from Land’s rank ignorance and bigotry. But at a recent conference he had this to say, as described by William Saletan.
Having lost at every level so far, creationist former science teacher John Freshwater has now filed a writ of certiorari with the Supreme Court, which they will almost certainly deny. Richard Hoppe reports that the writ contains some serious inconsistencies with his previous claims in earlier phases of the case. The writ contains two questions they want the court to consider:
Glenn Beck’s total lack of self-awareness is truly awe-inspiring. On his show last week he criticized a Nebraska state senate candidate for associating with Grover Norquist who is “truly one of the most dangerous men supposedly on our side.” And he cautions that people ought to know all about the people they’re standing up with politically.
The Worldnetdaily is furiously promoting an event called Washington: A Man of Prayer, to be held at the U.S. Capitol building on May 7, printing one article after another about it. It’s hosted by Michele Bachmann, Louis Gohmert and others. Unsurprisingly, the Worldnetdaily is copying a bunch of lies and distortions from David Barton.
Bill Federer, a sort of poor man’s David Barton, went on Gordon Klingenschmitt’s little Youtube show and expressed his concern that if atheists take over the military they’ll start executing millions of Christians. Because that’s totally plausible.
