Glenn Beck had David Barton on his show last week and Beck declared that “if we save the country, when we save the country, a lot of the credit in the afterlife is going to go to you.” Barton says God has put all those historical documents that he lies about in his hands.

Alan Pell Crawford, author of the book Twilight at Monticello: The Final Years of Thomas Jefferson, writes a review of David Barton’s appropriately titled book The Jefferson Lies in the Wall Street Journal. Beyond the obvious falsehoods, he nails Barton’s use of what I call the “golly gee whiz” form of history, where all the heroes are pure and virtuous.

David Barton has been caught in yet another lie, this time about recent history instead of the founding fathers and religion. On his radio show, he lied about the election of Houston Mayor Annise Parker. He’s opposed to her because she’s a lesbian, of course, so he’s inventing facts to support his arguments. He said:

I bet you thought the legal case filed by Jessica Ahlquist against her school system in Cranston, Rhode Island was over when the school board agreed not to appeal and both sides signed off on the judge’s ruling. You’d be wrong. A group of seven local people tried to intervene in the case to file the appeal even though the defendants had decided not to do so.

David Barton joined Glenn Beck on James Robison’s TV show and went all meta on his own hypocrisy, not only falsely claiming that we all are trying to set up a “secular theocracy” but that it’s his opponents who accuse him of doing what they are guilty of. It’s kind of like a triple negative.

Saw this on Chris Rodda’s Facebook page and cracked up. You know how Amazon always has that “people who bought this product also bought these products” section? Well people who bought David Barton’s new book of lies about Jefferson also bought … a stool and a noose. Seems appropriate.

David Barton’s latest lie is that the U.S. Constitution quotes the Bible “verbatim” in at least two provisions, the Treason Clause (he says it’s Article 3, Section 1, but it’s really section 3) and the requirement in Article 2 that the president be a natural born citizen. Here’s the video:

Boy, when David Barton starts spewing the crazy there seems to be almost nothing too stupid or bizarre for him to say. Now he says that schools aren’t teaching history correctly and it’s all the fault of the theory of evolution. Try to follow this “logic”:

I’m sure it will come as a shock that David Barton is lying yet again, this time repeating the lie that was debunked over and over again last year about military cemeteries and the VA allegedly forbidding any prayer or mention of God at the funerals of veterans.

Rep. Steve King, the prom king of Wingnuttia High School — Michele Bachmann is the queen, of course — went on on David Barton’s radio show and ranted and raved against Griswold v Connecticut, the Supreme Court case that overturned state laws banning contraception:

On his radio show recently, David Barton argued that we must have a Christian nation because having a secular nation leads to having a Muslim nation. Or something. Right Wing Watch has the transcript:

Warren Throckmorton, who’s been doing excellent work debunking David Barton over the last few months, catches him in a whole new lie — ironically, just as Barton publishes a book called The Jefferson Lies, which our own Chris Rodda is working on now as well. He gives this transcript of a conversation between Barton and Kirk Cameron:
