David Barton put his theocratic views on display on his radio show recently when he said he thinks that spending on foreign aid is not in the Constitution and is thus “out of bounds,” but not when it comes to Israel — because the Bible says God will do bad things to us if we don’t send them money.

GLAAD has launched what they’re calling the Commentator Accountability Project to document the rampant anti-gay bigotry among right-wing talk show hosts and pundits, and their targets are howling in outrage — and offering some amusingly idiotic rationalizations to excuse their conduct away. Kevin McCullough, for example, says that it is false to accuse him of saying that being gay kills people because he doesn’t believe anyone actually is gay.

Gather round kids, the wingnuts are fighting with each other again. This time it’s the seriously hardcore Brannon Howse of Worldview Weekend taking on the terminally stupid Kirk Cameron over the latter’s new movie Monument, which is basically a David Barton screed put on film. It’s apparently a tour of monuments and buildings in DC that supposedly prove that we were a Christian nation all along and therefore Ray Comfort should be president, or something. Howse begs to differ:

The Carroll County Board of Commissioners in Maryland has decided to encourage, and in some cases require, employees to attend a seminar on the Christian foundations of that state’s constitution, taught by a minister who appears to be state-level David Barton impersonator.

David Barton has decided that all scientists in the world are doing it wrong. You see, they should really just be reading the Bible because any science that is in conflict with the Bible must be wrong, no matter how much it explains or how rigorously it’s tested.

Sometimes you really have to wonder whether David Barton is breathing the same air the rest of us are. He’s so utterly deluded that one could be forgiven for assuming that he was doing serious drugs. And he is, in a sense — he’s high on Jesus. On his radio show recently he declared that America had never been a colonialist country, unlike those anti-religious countries in Europe:

This image is making the rounds on Facebook, purporting to be a bunch of pictures of atheists and with the caption, “He’s with them right now, Farewell, Mr. Hitchens.” But it’s historical revisionism every bit as absurd as anything put out by David Barton.

The loony right has always had a difficult time with Barack Obama’s religion. Some acknowledge that he’s a Christian, some say he’s a Muslim, some say he’s an atheist. And of course, some say he’s both a Muslim and an atheist. But David Barton is the first one, so far as I know, to call him a Christian atheist.

Newt Gingrich is among the most zealous of the drug warriors, once submitting a bill that would have included the death penalty for those who import marijuana to the United States. But he was a pot smoker himself and once wrote a letter to the AMA advocating for marijuana legalization.

As I’ve noted several times, David Barton is getting ready to release a book called The Jefferson Lies, which will undoubtedly be filled with many of them. Warren Throckmorton has a video and transcript of Barton lying quite flagrantly about the Jefferson Bible in a TBN appearance.

As David Barton prepares to release a book called The Jefferson Lies, Warren Throckmorton documents yet another Barton lie about Jefferson. Barton claims that he was a founder of the Virginia Bible Society. Absolutely not true.

We’ve grown accustomed to hearing David Barton say mind-numbingly idiotic things but this one may take the cake. Did you know that supporting unions is the same thing as support Stalin and Hitler? I didn’t either. But Barton does. After an interview with an economist born in Yugoslavia, he said:
