Okay, even by David Barton standards this qualifies as extra-crispy crazy. Here he explains to Kenneth Copeland that there are demons in Washington D.C. who are even capable of blocking prayers to God:

I’ll tell you one of the things too we’ll never get right until we understand this, it is a spiritual battle. We’re told in Ephesians, it’s not flesh in blood, we’re dealing with spirits. And I’ll tell you out of Daniel, praying, why did that answer get delayed for twenty-one days? Because the Prince of Persia fought against it. There are principalities that sit over certain areas.

Our old pal Vox Day has cranked up that world class IQ and cranked out another column full of nonsense at the Worldnutdaily. This time it’s on the question of whether America is a Christian nation. Get a load of this little gem of psychological projection:

Atheists, particularly the aggressive variety, tend to repeat the same talking points over and over with such assurance that the average historically illiterate individual, regardless of his religious faith, has a tendency to accept them at face value. But this is foolish, as historical arguments presented by atheists almost invariably rely upon taking one small piece of historical evidence and twisting it beyond all recognition while simultaneously ignoring the larger part of the historical record.

Texas Gov. Rick Perry spent this weekend at a private gathering of some of the craziest of the wingnuts at the ranch of his biggest financial backer, including David Barton and Rick Scarborough. We all know about Barton, but Scarborough is a Texas evangelist I talked about in my C-SPAN speech (Part one, part two) in 2007. That year he started a crusade to get conservative Christians elected to school boards and local commissions to influence policy.

He’s also craziest enough to be one of the many bigots to believe that God intentionally sent AIDS to punish gay people. Video below the fold.

One of the big names in evangelism is attacking David Barton, John Hagee and the Trinity Broadcasting Network for their support of Glenn Beck.

Bill Keller, leader of the world’s largest interactive Christian website for 12 years, Liveprayer.com, with over 2.4 million subscribers worldwide reading his Daily Devotional, is calling for a boycott of Christian TV network TBN, along with Pastor John Hagee and David Barton, for supporting the efforts a Mormon cult member Glenn Beck in his latest SCAM on the Christian community.

Beck, a member of the satanic Mormon cult, is currently in Israel holding several public events under the guise of “standing with Israel,” when in fact these are simply huge money making opportunities for his media business by conning people, mostly Christians, into sending him donations, buying merchandise, and subscriptions to his new “GBTV” webcasts that became necessary after he was forced off FOX news.

David Barton tweeted recently that he’s working on a book that “covers the 7 major myths” about Thomas Jefferson. Can’t wait to see what new fresh lies he comes up with for this one. Fire up the debunkin’ machine, Chris Rodda.

I’m sure it will come as no surprise to anyone here that David Barton doesn’t just distort American history — he also distorts the facts about the present day. As Right Wing Watch put it, in a rather understated way, Barton “never lets the facts get in the way of his promoting of right-wing view of history and political causes, no matter the issue.” And they’ve caught him in yet another blatant lie, this time about how the Obama administration is supposedly letting child pornography occur without prosecuting anyone for it. This is from his Tuesday radio show:

Here’s one of the most bizarre diatribes you’re likely to hear for a while. Rabbi Daniel Lapin, one of the crazy Jewish fundamentalists who spends all of his time supporting the religious right agenda in this country, was on David Barton’s radio show last week and he argued that caring about our pets (of which I have none) leads to terrible things. Like Nazism. And feminism.

My friend Lauri Lebo writes about David Barton’s latest idiotic claim, that the founding fathers rejected evolution and that even Thomas Paine demanded that creationism be taught in public school science classrooms.

“As far as the Founding Fathers were concerned, they’d already had the entire debate over creation and evolution, and you get Thomas Paine, who is the least religious Founding Father, saying you’ve got to teach Creation science in the classroom. Scientific method demands that.”
