Kirk Cameron’s new documentary Monumental has finally been released in a handful of theaters to almost no attention. Right Wing Watch was there to tell the whole story of what the release was like, complete with Glenn Beck and lots of others. This despite some history between them:
Rush Limbaugh’s notpology for this vile attack on Sandra Fluke was clearly designed to prevent more advertisers from jumping ship. Prior to the notpology, at least half a dozen companies had pulled their ads from the show. Sleep Train, Sleep Number, Legal Zoom, Citrix, Quicken Loans and Carbonite had all withdrawn their ads. And at least one of them is not buying the fake apology. The CEO of that company said on its website:

This time it’s the seriously hardcore Brannon Howse of Worldview Weekend taking on the terminally stupid Kirk Cameron over the latter’s new movie Monument, which is basically a David Barton screed put on film. It’s apparently a tour of monuments and buildings in DC that supposedly prove that we were a Christian nation all along and therefore Ray Comfort should be president, or something. Howse begs to differ:

A discussion in the comment thread of an earlier post got me thinking about the influence of tribalism and simplistic thinking in political and religious discussions. In the midst of political and religious disagreements of the kind discussed here every day, it is very easy to fall into the trap of turning one’s opponents into a single monolithic group, of using a label as a handy stand in for thinking. It’s something we all do at times, but it’s something that a skeptic or rationalist should attempt to avoid whenever possible.
One of the more amusing memes coming from the loony right, especially the Glenn Beck set, for the last three years is the obsessive focus on the formerly obscure Saul Alinsky. Newt Gingrich has adopted the Glenn Beck line that Alinsky was plotting to destroy American society and that Obama is the Lenin to his Marx.
I’ve never watched the show Glee. I’ll probably never watch the show Glee. I lived through Fame the first time and I have an allergic reaction to Up With People, so it’s pretty unlikely that I’ll find it anything but annoying. But the wingnuts have seen it, and they don’t like it a bit. Televangelist Con man James Robison says it’s helping to destroy the country. From a conversation with Glenn Beck:
