India's Bloggers Ban and Modi's Searching Questions! July 18, 2006

Dr. Singh’s government is the most despicable in its manner of fighting the enemy outside! Singh not only downplayed Pak’s role.. he actually went on to under-rate the seriousness of the attacks and their effect on Indo-Pak dialog!

Now, the government has done – what I thought was unthinkable in India, a democracy!! Banned URLs and blogs to be viewed in India – at least some of the major domain names like blogger.com. It is indeed a sad day because it was Mumbaihelp.blogspot.com which was instrumental in getting the information to the people at the toughest time after the blasts!

Here is Narendra Modi – I aint a great fan of him but here he asks very relevant and important questions – speaking out in Mumbai. He is asking very pointed and direct questions that Dr. Singh has to give an answer to!!! If he does not or cannot.. then he really has no business to be sitting up there as a lame duck.. while the common man pays for his pliable spine!!

“Some five-star activists and people brought up with foreign values paint as communal whoever speaks up against terrorism.”

When Ishrat Jahan, a resident of Mumbra near Mumbai, was killed by the Gujarat police, human rights actvists had painted her as a martyr and one politician had given Rs 100,000 to her family, Modi said. Three days later, he said, a Lashkar-e-Tayiba mouthpiece publication had hailed Jahan as a martyr.

“Where were your secret cameras then?” Modi demanded, an apparent reference to sting operations on Indian news television channels. “I don’t talk much,” he added, after the applause died down. “I don’t believe in wasting headline space.”

On the Manmohan Singh government

Modi pointed fingers at a Congress ally in Tamil Nadu, the Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam, alleging that the organisation was mentioned in a chargesheet against the Students Islamic Movement of India.

He alleged that the outlawed United Liberation Front of Asom had campaigned for the Congress party in Assam.

He charged that in the Bihar election, an Osama bin Laden lookalike had been paraded to garner votes. He said a Coimbatore blast accused had been freed to contest elections.

“What is your strategy against terrorism?” he demanded from the Union government. “If you don’t want to tell the public, tell me, a chief minister.”
