We all know that.  And a major part of India’s surge in computing world is due to these pirated things.  Good or bad, I am not sure.  But it was necessary for India’s middle and low income class to help it bridge the gap.  As an Indian and knowing India’s history – I would say that every society does what is right for itself.  And sometimes, another group or country’s people get impacted.  There was a time when India was the greatest exporter of garments and cotton specifically.  But the Brits came and through illegal ways crushed the entire economy of India and made it into a beggar nation within a matter of 100 years.  That is justified in the name of Colonialism, although it was a “crime against humanity”.

Indian capital’s famous Nehru Place market has been placed among the top 30notorious IT markets of the world that deal in goods and services infringing on intellectual property rights, an official US report has said.

“Nehru Place is reportedly one of the many markets in major cities throughout India that are known for dealing in large volumes of pirated software, pirated optical media containing movies and music, and counterfeit goods,” said the report released by the US Trade Representatives (USTR).

Among other internet and physical markets that exemplify marketplaces that deal in infringing goods and services, facilitating and sustaining global piracy and counterfeiting include Urdu Bazaars in Karachi and Lahore. (Source)
