A lot of penis talk going ’round these parts…

The other day I was changing the 2 yr. old, R2.  While I bent down to throw away and the old diaper and get a new one, Rhysie put his bum down on the plastic changing table found it to cold and started gyrating his hips up and down.  He started giggling and said, “Look, Mama.  I shaking my penis!”  When he saw that I laughed he kept going, cackling all the way… “I shaking my penis,” over and over and over again.

Later, he bragged to his big brother, “I shaked my penis.”  R1’s response? “Good job, little buddy!”

This struck me because it was only a few hours earlier when the 6 yr. old, R1 proclaimed matter-of-factly after sitting in a warm bath tub, “boy, this hot water makes my penis want to shrivel up and hide.”

This morning, R2 said very innocently, “Mama, I take my diaper off. I want to see my penis.”  I tried to distract him from this by asking if he wanted to go see Curious George.  He gave a sigh followed by “na.  I just want to see my penis.”

(At the park last Saturday.  Impressive amount of snot from R2, eh?)

So.  A lot of penis talk going around in this house!  Tell me, mothers of boys, should I just get used to this?  Do I have the next 5 to 10 to 15 years of talking about their penises or will they eventually get too embarrassed to talk to me and bring all the penis talk to Daddy?
