Fly

Fly November 22, 2013

I love to fly. I love the feeling of heading off to an airport, ripe with possibilities.

I love the feeling of boarding on an airplane, except of course when boarding outside in the snow, in 2 degrees Farenheight.

Even though most of the world flies, it makes me feel ‘special,’ ‘privileged.’

I love the mere idea of going some where new, imagine how much I love actually doing it.

I love the window seat. I practically hug the window. I love hiding my device right there in the side, earbud under a heavy side part so I can sneak the tunes during liftoff.

love the rush of zero to 500 MPH in just a few seconds.  I even love the slight fear knowing most planes go down within those first few important seconds.

I love the smooth early Morning commute when you sit just above the clouds as the sun peeks it’s pretty little head through though it’s almost too blinding to keep staring.

I love to fly at night when everything is dark save for the voracious readers book lights. The light dim of someone netflix bingeing on their iPad.  Even the babies have quieted, all you can hear is the whir of the aircraft & the snores of the passengers and when you wonder if you kept going how long you could chase the sun.

I love it especially if when I arrive at my destination the warm sun beats down on me, and I’ve landed myself in a warmer climat than I’ve just left.

I love that the privilege of flying means being jutted up next to people who will look differently than me and my Midwestern Michigan lifelong experiences.

I love that to fly means I’ll hear wildly different accents and every smell whether stateside or international is poignantly different than what I’m used to. I love that I’ll hear dialects and languages that I know nothing of, and I’ll take on an almost stakerish people-watching, people-listening obsession.

I’ve been to British Columbia, Quebec, Toronto, Kenya, (Nairobi, Mombasa, Kikuyu) Switzerland, St. Lucia, Ethiopia, Jamaica & Mexico. And if The Lord allows I’d love to add Italy, The United Kingdom, Australia, Brazil & New Zealand to that list.

Because, these beautiful people, God’s beautiful earth. To fly? What a gift.

Where have you flew too? Where would you love to shimmy yourself off to?

“On Fridays around these parts we like to write. Not for comments or traffic or anyone else’s agenda. But for pure love of the written word. For joy at the sound of syllables, sentences and paragraphs all strung together by the voice of the speaker.

We love to just write without worrying if it’s just right or not. For five minutes flat.

Here’s how we do it:

1. Write for 5 minutes flat with no editing, tweaking or self critiquing.

2. Link back here and invite others to join in {you can grab the button code in my blog’s footer}.

3. Go and tell the person who linked up before you what their words meant to you. Every writer longs to feel heard.

OK, are you ready? Give me your best five minutes for the prompt: Fly.
