Today, I’m writing my monthly article over at a Deeper Story on racism.  Are we all racists?  Is there a little Paula Deen in all of us?  Is the social construct of race a helpful one?  If the social construct of race isn’t helpful is the term racism necessary?  Even so, aren’t we all deeply flawed when it comes to racial and ethnic differences?  Oh, you know, just trying to ask and answer the simple questions of life.  Like anything... Read more

Today I started my new job as a Program Director for a local nonprofit.  It was fabulous.  There are many aspects of this position I know I’m going to love including getting to train several non-profit Boards in volunteer management & volunteer recruitment.  It’s amazingly up my alley.  Thank. You. God. So.  I guess Ima’ gone ‘head & do my business woman thang, y’all.  (And keep using my beloved slang in about the only place it’s appropriate). Most of you... Read more

“WHAT IS IT?”  I hear my 7.5 yr. old screaming from the other room. A bit of explanation from my husband. “BUT, WHAT. IS. IT? DADDY TELL ME NOW!” A bit more explanation from my husband.  A bit of laughing.  A bit more frustrated tones from the son. “IS IT AN OCEAN?  IS IT EATING YOUR PEAS? IS IT LEARNING TO READ?!?” /// I’m not even kidding, this banter goes on similarly for another 20 helpless minutes while I’m in... Read more

In case you hadn’t noticed I added a new category above: Mentoring.  Recently I started meeting -in person- a wonderful young lady we’ll call T.  She was a freshman in one of my on campus Bible studies way back in the day.  I’m talkin’ 2004, y’all.  She’s a beautiful soul.  Additionally, I am also beginning to be mentored by York.  One of the things I want to share more here is how both of these budding mentoring relationships are going... Read more

Yesterday, I shared how I need my blog to be different.  Per my promise, today is pt. 2 in which, I hope I can explain why being a writer can kiss my bootay. One of the biggest revelations I had on my bloggy hiatus was this:  I don’t want to be a full time writer.  More, I’m not supposed to be a writer-author-blogger by trade. {record skips, everyone stops, stares, crickets chirp}. For awhile there, I thought maybe I was... Read more

Yo yo yiggity yo!  I am back from my 6 wk. self-imposed blogging hiatus of sorts.  If I hadn’t taken that time I was going to implode with ALL the frustrations.  So.  How did it go? Let’s just say that first week was flipping ridick.  I had NO idea how addicted I was.  Once I deleted the Instagram, Twitter & FB apps from my phone I did better but could oft be found sneaking around stealing others’ devices to get my... Read more

I’m back y’all!  I can’t wait to share more of what this little 6 week break has done for my tender bloggy heart, but I am definitely not going anywhere.  For now, I’m guest posting over at my friend Micah’s blog, Redemption Pictures.  Today, I’m sharing my own picture of redemption.  More like a glimpse actually on some things I’ve never shared before. (ay ay ay) Hope it’s an encouragement to you because there is always redemption available for you... Read more

It was inevitable, y’all, that I’d declare a blogging break.  If your a reader you’ve probably seen this coming for awhile now.  And, at the end of the day, perhaps I’m nothing if not consistent; I also declared a break on May 26, 2011 & June 18, 2012.  Senioritis anyone? Only this time, I’m taking a FULL social media fast not limited to my blog.  I am also *GASP* not checking Facebook, Twitter or Instagram.  Pinterest bit it for me, a... Read more

Around this time last year, I made the mistake of putting off enrolling Rhysie in 3’s pre-school for the Fall.  When the Fall rolled around I couldn’t find a single school that would take him except the pricey private schools.  Man, that was an oversight.  All year, Rhysie’s asked when he gets to go to school, when it’s his turn to ride a school bus, when he’ll get to sit at a desk. It’s those bigger little things that make... Read more

{Lovely tree in our backyard} Ladies and Gentlecars, I, Grace Biskie have completed session #3 of the 4 Bible studies I am writing for the Converge Bible Study series being published by Abingdon Press.  Why, you ask, is this such a big deal?  Sigh, sigh & shoulder shrug.  Because, people, for whatever reason, it’s been hard -and I mean CRAZY hard to finish these!  Not to go all crazymatic on y’all but I do believe there’s been a heavy... Read more
