Congratulations, to Larissa Marks of The Larissa Monologues fame.  Larissa’s comment on my McDonald’s Happy Time Family Time Giveaway post earned her a $100 value gift pack! Larissa was randomly chosen by a random number chooser thingy.  Though I keep and maintain my blog I’m completely aloof as to how to place the widget in my blog.  Rest assured, comment #3 of #115 comments was chosen. As my 4.5 yr. old, Ransom would say, “hippy dippy for Larris-y!” 🙂 Later... Read more

Who else sucks at saying thank you enough? I’m still feeling guilty about some of the wedding shower and baby shower gifts I never got around to writing a cute little note of thanks for. So, um, if I owe you a thank you note for anything kind in the world that you did for me: thank you, thank you, thank you.  Please forgive me for being a big, fat jerk. We all know that the simple fact of saying... Read more

Today a friend recommended I buy a few books on marketing and P.R. for the sake of growing my blog.  A few weeks ago, a friend recommended I attend the Blogher Network’s 2010 Conference going on this weekend.  The collision of those conversations with the conference I am actually attending this weekend –The Willowcreek Global Leadership Summit– got me thinking about what I’m doing with this blog.  Am I trying to grow it?  Should I?  Try for income or go ad-free? ... Read more

In 2005, Nike released this ad of a black woman’s backside, which is now being replaced with this ad of a racially ambiguous woman (who looks Latino to me) with a much smaller buttox… (more…) Read more

Inception was good. How good? Leave-you-on-the-edge-of-your-seat good.  Make-you-talk-about-it-for-2 hours-afterward good & then after all that, search-around-on-the-internet-begging-for-answers good.  Will-go-to-bed-tonight-wondering-about-the-ending good. It’s a great film to see in the theatre, in fact I want to go again!  But since I’m also anxious to see Eclipse, Salt, Eat Love Pray & a few others I won’t.  But I want to ~ that’s saying something for me!  I hate to waste a good $5 seeing the same movie twice in a theatre. I can’t... Read more

Book Review I recently read Debra Gwartney’s brave memoir, Live Through This: A Mother’s Memoir of Runaway Daughters & Reclaimed Love. Wow.  It was amazing.  I would highly recommend this book.  I couldn’t put it down for the 3 days I spent every waking moment ingesting the story wondering how on earth it would end for these girls. I loved that she was honest about how she felt about everything even when her daughters actions led her to hate them,... Read more

Ransom who is 4 3/4 years old has been really cracking us up at his random assessments of the way things are or should be.  I really love watching him come into his own, managing to be cute, silly, sensitive & endearing all at the same time. Last night we were snuggling up in the tent we just built in our living room. Me:  Ransom, were go together like white on rice. Ransom: Mama, we go together like peanut butter... Read more

**You can still participate in my $100 value prize pack giveaway post from McDonalds & Blogher through Aug.10** Sadly, tonight was the final night of my creative writing class.  The class was in some ways exhilarating even while it has made me question the whole trajectory of my life.  I.E.  Should I put more time and effort into writing?  Focus only on my book?  Or should I plug away slowly while finishing my Graduate degree?  Maybe I should work less?  Or... Read more

A few weeks ago Dave, Ransom, Rhys & I had a BLAST at the McDonald’s Family Time Getaway weekend. It was my first ever invitation to be a part of a “mommy blogger” trip, so I’ve been super excited to share about it. It was a fun-for-the-whole-family trip and they totally lived up to their claims! Read on for a very cool giveaway! (more…) Read more
