On the way to school today I listened to my fave podcast: This American Life.  The topic?  Senior Prom.  The excitement, the build-up, the inevitable let-down, the stupidity, the dress, the hair, etc.  They explored, why is Prom such a popular cultural phenonmenon?   During one prom, a tornado took out half the town and killed 1/3 of its residents –the story left me in tears.  Another story was about the guys making meticulous plans to “get laid,” which left... Read more

Ran has been saying the cutest things lately…   GB: Ran, you are my little sweet punkin’ RB: I am NOT a punkin’ I am a BIG boy!  Daddy is a man, and you are wuh-bin. (Woman) GB: When I call you a punkin, I am using it as a term of endearment –it means I love you. RB: But I don’t want a team of endewments, I am Ransom big boy Biskie! Later… GB: Hey, my little punkin,... Read more

I have been really struggling with Greek lately.  Instead of working harder I’ve allowed my fears to keep me pushing it aside.  Now, I have a test next week that I feel hopelessly unprepared for. I’ve not been sleeping well.  My hubby has some sort of sleep disorder in which his violent flinching causes him to elbow me in my head all night while kicking me fairly regularly.  Every Thu. night I stay in the wonderful guest room of my... Read more

If I had a penny for every time some one said to me, “only you,” I’d have at least a dollar.  Maybe $2.   I do find I get myself into quite a few shennanigans, making me wonder if I subconsciously prefer a comical life.  Perhaps, life is far too drab for me. In any case, last week I was all excited about something.  My mind was going a 1,000 directions while I was on my way to Marla’s house.... Read more

I’ve been doing a lot of research for the memoir I’m working on.  I like calling it “research” because it makes me feel more official.   I went to Amazon & looked all of the New York Times Best-Selling Memoirs for the last 10 years.  Then, I went to each book and read the majority of the views.  I know what I like in memoirs but I want to get in the heads of other readers.  One thing I noticed... Read more

“If a man, woman or child 100 miles away was suffering at the hands of torture and murder would you not run to help? Why then, do you not help when men, women and children are suffering at the hands of torture and murder, 3,000 miles away?” –Raphael Lemkin, the father of the word, “genocide,” who narrowely escaped death during the Jewish Holocaust. I attended an informational meeting at my school today about the horrors currently being experienced in North... Read more

How do you handle transitions? I’m finding that as I grow up I’m becoming this weird mix of two things.  One, I often have great fear and trepidation concerning upcoming transitions.  For example, if you followed my blog in the past, you know I was so afraid to transition into my Sabbatical. The other, is that I’m very experiential and need new experiences to stay motivated, to enjoy life and be a constructive human being, lest I get bored and... Read more

Gosh, some things are so sad.  Today, Dave & I heard the most unfortunate story of the woman who is auctioning off her virginity.  The bid is up to $3.5 million.  Yep, million.  Some sick, horndog is willing to shell out millions of dollars for night of sex with a virgin.  Since the act will be done in Las Vegas, the whole shebang is actually legal. She says she just wanted to “find a way to pay for school.”  How... Read more
