ANOTHER ROUNDUP OF INTERESTING ARTICLES. More original posting later… for now, here are some other people with stuff to say.

Iain Murray on some pro-lifers’ misuse of statistics. (Via The Agitator.) It is incredibly hard to use stats responsibly in any area of social science–check out the John Lott Wars at Reason for an example. I don’t think responsible use of stats is impossible, certainly, but Balko’s right that pro-lifers have much better claims to make than these shaky stats.

Fascinating, sad article on cheating in high school. I’ll bet the Old Oligarch has some stories to contribute. This is a story of capitulation–yes, technology makes Internet paper-pinching much easier, but this article makes it clear that many schools have simply given up on trying to enforce honor codes or punish teens caught cheating. And parents with Ivy-League-or-death attitudes don’t help, for sure. Grrr.

Boom in the Nigerian movie industry. (Via Amygdala.)

And a Rwandan war criminal. “…[A] young man named Emmanuel Nsabimana, told me through a translator that Pauline ordered him and the others to burn the women. Nsabimana recalled that one Interahamwe complained that they lacked sufficient gasoline. ”Pauline said, ‘Don’t worry, I have jerrycans of gasoline in my car,’ ” Nsabimana recalled. ”She said, ‘Go take that gasoline and kill them.’ I went to the car and took the jerrycans. Then Pauline said, ‘Why don’t you rape them before you kill them?'” Link via The Rat, who, incongruously, has also posted one of my favorite quotes from Tales of the City–though I haven’t yet read the book it’s in.)
