YOU HAVE MORE ALLIES THAN YOU THINK. Body and Soul writes that “conservatives” are hideous scumbags who don’t care about human rights except in countries we want to bomb (I’m paraphrasing here, in case you wondered!). Here are some articles, very much off the top of my head.
From National Review: Saudis suck
Saudis suck
Saudis suck
Saudis suck
International trafficking in women sucks
International trafficking in women sucks
International trafficking in women sucks
International trafficking in women sucks
North Korea is hell
The Catholic Church and democracy
Syria
NRO search for “human rights” (tons o’ links)
“liberalization” (lots of stuff about trade, which some of us of course think is super-relevant to other rights, but also lots of stuff about rights Jeanne is really interested in)
From the Weekly Standard: Liberalization in the Middle East (hey! it’s me!)
“The Talibanization of Nigeria”
Standing up to Egypt
“Egypt’s Sakharov”
Plus lots of stuff about China.
From the National Catholic Register (I don’t think this paper is “conservative” really, but I expect Jeanne would, and besides, these are abuses I don’t think Amnesty International really cares about): Forced abortions and sterilizations
Coerced sterilization in Peru
Coerced sterilization in Mexico
The Reg has also run tons of articles on religious persecution throughout the world, really pretty much everywhere.
The head of the Keston Institute (which promotes freedom for all religions in Communist and post-Communist countries) is very, very conservative (and a mensch to boot).
Again, this is just off the top of my head. And not including stuff like Dave Kopel’s many, many articles detailing the role of the UN and disarmament in making genocide easier (which I guess you could see as a right-wing cause rather than a human-rights cause, although actual right-wingers like me are likely to say that isn’t a dichotomy). I’m sure others can come up with much, much more.
