LIBERIA. Scattered notes on Liberia–the AfricaPundit’s post.
The Agitator on Charles Taylor’s ties to Al Qaeda. TA now vigorously opposes US intervention in Liberia, characterizing it as a charity-war humanitarian folly (“Apparently to Annan, Dean and like-thinking [i.e. Liberia-war-supporting–ed.] leftists, American troops should only be sent into harm’s way when they aren’t defending actual Americans“), but doesn’t his previous post suggest that Taylor is allied with the guys who attacked us, much more than we ever proved Saddam was? And Taylor’s also responsible for a good chunk of chaos in an area of the world of great interest to Islamist terrorists.
I don’t know if war is the best US response to Taylor. I do know there’s a darned good case to be made that it is. I’ll also note that a pro-war-in-Liberia argument is very likely a (retroactive, how useful…) anti-war-in-Iraq argument, given that our military seems to be already overextended and we really, really can’t pull out of Iraq now.
