“HUNGRY HUNGRY HIPPOCAMPUS”: Yet another refraction of “Donnie Darko,” this time kinda pop-Freudian. I generally find that stuff a lot less interesting than e.g. this take on Christian symbolism in “DD.” And Emerson is leaning way too hard on his pet interpretation. But there’s no reason the adolescence and sexual themes can’t coexist with and play into existential and religious themes (no duh, say those who have read some of my stories), and I’m always, always in the market for more interpretations of “DD.” Spoilers abound in both those links, of course. …Both links via Dave Tepper.
