About Us

FaithfulDemocrats.com
is an online community and action center for Democrats of Christian faith.  Chaired by social justice activist Rev. Romal
Tune and Tennessee State Senator and author Roy Herron, our website is helping
to frame the nation’s values debate around the Gospel message of justice and community
— not the Religious Right’s message of fear and division.  In the process, we aim to energize the
Democratic base, expand the Democratic coalition, and hold the Democratic Party
to its highest ideals.

Specifically, our
website:

• Targets
  Christians while being explicitly Democratic.   Interfaith and progressive groups play a critical role
  in our nation’s political life, and our website will indeed be
  interfaith-friendly.   But our
  Christian focus gives evangelicals, Catholics, and other devout Christians
  a place to feel at home — and our partisan focus, in turn, does the needed
  work of helping Democrats win elections.

• Features
  big names in religion and politics.  Committed
  writers and Advisory Council members include Gov. Tim Kaine, Sen. Harry
  Reid, Minyon Moore, Rep. Rosa DeLauro, Mike McCurry,  Paul Begala, Rev. Romal Tune, Dr. Robin
  Lovin, and many others.

• Provides
  a true community.  A diverse team of bloggers are
  generating fresh content every day, and site visitors are able to discuss
  and debate everything on the site.  This format engages Christian Democrats and swing voters while
  giving a forum to a new generation of writers who can articulate
  Democratic values in the language of faith.  Our team includes rising stars like
  best-selling author Lauren Winner, renowned theologian Dr. Robin Lovin,
  Latina activist and CrossLeft founder Kety Esquivel, Georgia minister and

  a Campaign Action Center.  In an era of Republican dominance, Democrats can’t afford to be all

  highlight candidates in close races, direct volunteers and donors to these
  campaigns, provide talking points, and feature a campaign blog with
  analysts such as former Washington Monthly editor Amy Sullivan.
