Larry will Bring Classroom Values to Congress

Larry will Bring Classroom Values to Congress 2013-05-09T06:07:11-06:00

The congressional campaign in North Carolina’s 8th District becomes more negative with each attack Republican incumbent Robin Hayes throws at his Democratic challenger, Larry Kissell.  As Hayes tries to hold on to the seat he has occupied for the last ten years, he is quickly draining any trace of value from his campaign.

In a recent public attack on his opponent, Hayes told a crowd, "Liberals hate real Americans that work and accomplish and achieve and believe in God."  Confronted for saying this offhand remark, Hayes denied having said it at all.  His embarrassing public display won him a gig as world’s worst person on MSNBC’s Countdown with Keith Olbermann.

Robin Hayes’ comment is alienating and divisive, causing fragmentation when a sense of unity is so important to bettering the lives of struggling Americans everywhere.  Unfortunately for Hayes, being caught in a lie says it all – his comment, as well as his dishonest approach to the American people, calls into question his integrity and commitment to values.

Larry Kissell knows that America is not just a nation of “liberals” verses “conservatives,” it is a nation of Americans.  Larry’s integrity and commitment to values will bring the change we need to Congress.  A life member and deacon of first Baptist Church, Larry is in this race out of a genuine desire to bring change to the struggling Americans in his community.  His unique background, along with his Christian values, inspires a care for fostering better lives through greater opportunity.

Larry’s background is not a far cry from the people whose daily struggles he would take on as a member of congress. After graduating from Wake Forest University with a degree in economics, Larry devoted 27 years of his life to working in a textile mill in rural North Carolina. Recognizing the importance of education, he became a high school social studies teacher out of a desire to make a difference in students’ lives. It was this same desire for change and fostering of values that led Larry to run for Congress.  He wants to make a difference; he wants to work to offer better lives to the people growing up in the same America that he grew up in.

Larry Kissell believes in Real Family Values, by which he simply means we expect far more from our Congress than being told how to be a family. It means having representatives actually demonstrating values such as honesty and integrity. As Kissell claims, "A commitment to Real Family Values means helping working families rise above he poverty line, instead of pushing millions more working families down the economic ladder while giving targeted tax breaks to idle wealth.  Our families deserve more than empty moral posturing from an incumbent that votes to reduce efforts to collect child support for struggling families, makes it more difficult to obtain student loans and goes out of his way to vote for torture. The hard working families of the 8th District and our nation deserve a commitment to education, economic opportunity, civil rights, personal freedoms and the safe, clean environment that we all want for our families."

Larry Kissell’s campaign reflects his commitment to giving back to the community, as he is involved in a tithing initiative similar to that of Democratic candidate Tom Periello, running in VA-5.  The tithing initiative encourages campaign volunteers to donate 10% of their volunteer time to doing community service projects.  For every hour a volunteer phone banks or knocks on doors, he or she spends 6 minutes at a food bank or similar charity.

Larry Kissell knows the true meaning of giving back to the community, and he is running for Congress to do just that.  Nothing says “change” more than the prospect of a high school teacher with a commitment to values and service representing North Carolina’s 8th District.
