Last night was the conclusion of the latest season of The Bachelor, which ended with Sean Lowe (spoiler alert!) proposing to Catherine Giudici. The last episode of the season traditionally features the Bachelor or Bachelorette’s family meeting the final two contestants and telling their son/daughter which one they liked better. Sean is a born-again Christian, and he’s also a born-again virgin. Though he’s had sex in the past, he recommitted to his faith and took a vow of celibacy until... Read more

This season, Yolanda Foster joined the cast of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. Yolanda, a former model originally from Holland, is married to musician and songwriter David Foster. She’s also apparently trying to brand herself as some kind of lifestyle expert. She owns an interior design company, and she’s now hawking 14K gold rosaries. I didn’t realize that Yolanda was religious, but at least the rosaries are really pretty. That said, there’s also a section on her site where she... Read more

Thanksgiving is in March – if you’re season 4 of Community and your episodes are airing way behind schedule, that is. Luckily, the episode was fun of cool stuff and some serious plot development in the form of Jeff’s first meeting with his dad. But my personal favorite joke was Shirley (Yvette Nicole Brown)’s apron. I like how Community lets Shirley be devout in her faith without being a jerk or cliche. Plus, Troy (Donald Glover) is a Jehovah’s Witness... Read more

This morning, the entire Duggar family – from mom and dad Jim Bob Duggar and Michelle Duggar down to their youngest kids and grandkids – appeared on the Today show. When the family appears on Today it usually means they’re announcing a pregnancy, and today was no exception – Anna Duggar, wife of oldest son Josh Duggar, is expecting her third child. The couple, who are choosing all M names for their kids, already have Mackynzie and Michael. While it’s... Read more

Tom Cruise may be the most visible face of the Church of Scientology, but before he fell in love with Xenu he considered a path in another religion. As a kid, Tom attended a Catholic school in Cincinnati, Ohio, and while there strongly considered joining the priesthood. The New York Daily News has the story: “Tom was instantly hooked,” said Father Ric Schneider, who gave the speech that brought Cruise to seminary school. “I think he wanted a good education.... Read more

Comedian/firebrand Joan Rivers (real name: Joan Rosenberg) recently made a joke that some Jews weren’t super happy with. While doing Oscars fashion commentary for E!, Rivers commented on Heidi Klum’s outfit: “The last time a German looked this hot was when they were pushing Jews into the ovens.” The Jewish watchdog group the Anti Defamation League (ADL) took issue with the joke and demanded that Rivers apologize, but she said no way. “My husband lost the majority of his family... Read more

As much as I love Real Housewife singles, most of them are godawful singers who need to stick with joke songs. (“Money Can’t Buy You Class,” anyone?) That said, Kandi Burruss is more than just a Real Housewives of Atlanta cast member – she’s a respected singer, songwriter, and producer who won a Grammy for writing TLC‘s song “No Scrubs.” Her storyline this season has been about getting into the gospel world, and now her first single is out. It’s... Read more

Last night’s episode of Saturday Night Live was hosted by comedian Kevin Hart. In one of the best sketches, he played nine-year-old actress Quvenzhane Wallis, who stole the show last week as the youngest person ever nominated for a Best Actress trophy at the Oscars. She’s definitely more photogenic than whoever’s actually going to get picked as Pope Benedict’s replacement.   Read more

When looking for a partner, some people try online dating. But others, like actress Viola Davis, appeal to a higher power. The Oscar-nominated star of The Help and Doubt told the New York Post, “I was the loneliest woman in the world, and someone said, ‘You should just pray for a husband.’ I said I wanted a big black man from the South who looked like a football player, who already had children, who maybe had been married before .... Read more

If you haven’t heard of the Women of the Wall, you should definitely look them up. The activist group regularly protests and speaks out against the laws for Israel’s holiest Jewish site, the Western Wall/Kotel. The Kotel is divided into a men’s and women’s section, but the women’s section is smaller and does not allow singing, praying out loud, or women wearing garments like tallits which are traditionally associated with men. The Jerusalem Post reports that ten women were arrested... Read more
