Sony Pictures Entertainment set release dates for 16 of their upcoming films today, and one of them happens to be The Lamb, an animated take on the Nativity told from the point of view of the animals. It is due to come out on December 8, 2017.

As things currently stand, that’s two weeks after a currently untitled Pixar film is due to come out, and two weeks before DreamWorks releases The Croods 2.

The Lamb, which has been in development for about a year, is being produced by Sony Pictures Animation and DeVon Franklin — a former Sony executive who also happens to be a preacher — and it is being directed by Tim Reckart, a Catholic whose credits include the Oscar-nominated stop-motion short film Head Over Heels.

There is no word yet regarding whose voices might be cast in the film.

Sony has had a fair bit of success with “faith-based” films in recent years, most notably with Heaven Is for Real. Their upcoming projects include the biblical drama Risen, which concerns a Roman soldier’s investigation into reports of the Resurrection. That film is due to come out on January 22, or about five months from now.
