Regular readers of this blog will know that I’m skeptical of the way phrases like “biblical accuracy” get tossed around whenever a Bible movie comes out.

Obviously, it is a good thing for a biblical movie or any other literary adaptation to be true to its source material, but, given that the Bible is not written like a script or novel, it is simply impossible to turn biblical texts into movies without filling in a lot of narrative gaps — and that means there will always have to be room for creative license.

It is fascinating, then, to see how the newest promotional video for Paul, Apostle of Christ is titled “Biblical Accuracy” but actually spends a lot of time talking about the way the film introduces fictional elements that can bring out the movie’s themes.

You can watch the video here:

Paul, Apostle of Christ comes to theatres across North America on March 28.
