New podcast drama starring Laurence Fishburne, Kerry Washington to include “contemporary retelling of three Biblical stories” January 24, 2022

This isn’t exactly movie news, but, considering the cast involved, it’s movie-adjacent, so…

Variety reports that Laurence Fishburne and Daniel Dae Kim have joined the cast of an eight-episode Audible podcast drama series called Prophecy, which counts among its producers one Kerry Washington, who will also co-star in the series.

There are lots of movies, TV shows, and podcasts about the supernatural out there, and I don’t ordinarily report on them because there’s just so much out there and they’re all over the map, but this one catches my eye because of the “biblical” elements.

To quote the story:

In “Prophecy,” when a series of unexplainable events happens simultaneously around the world, hydrologist Virginia (Washington), British zoo veterinarian Daniel (casting TBA), and commercial driver Jonah (Kim) find themselves at the head of each phenomena under investigation by government agent, Thomas (Fishburne). As they fight for survival, they soon realize that they are all connected in a contemporary retelling of three Biblical stories: the Virgin Mary, Daniel in the Lions’ Den, and Jonah and the Whale.

So, consider my curiosity piqued.

The series is being written and directed by Randy McKinnon, whose visual-media credits include a short film called Mary about “a religious mother as she comes to grips with her daughters imaginary friend”. So he’s got religion on the brain, obviously.

The podcast series is expected to debut on Audible in the second half of 2022.
