I’m back, y’all! Bring on the dancing boys.
And also, I sincerely apologize for the extended absence. I had several writing opportunities fall into my lap, which was great, but they came with deadlines, which was stressy and demanded pretty much all of my attention.
But I’ve been hitting them, like a damn grown-up. And one of the projects to which I contributed officially launches today!
My loyal Cluterbuckaroos, it gives me pride and pleasure to introduce you to The Gorgon’s Guide to Magical Resistance.
The Gorgon’s Guide is a sequel to the 2018 title The New Aradia: A Witch’s Handbook to Magical Resistance, and like its predecessor, was edited by the inimitable Laura Tempest Zakroff. According to the publisher:
“The Gorgon’s Guide to Magical Resistance is a handbook is designed to serve as a collection of ideas to teach, share, inspire, empower, protect, and guide. Within its pages are sigils, spells, recipes, essays, invocations, rituals, and more, all gathered from experienced magical practitioners. At your fingertips is an arsenal of tools to aid you on your path.“
I would love to tell you more about the piece I wrote for the book, but I honestly don’t remember exactly what I put down — I was kind of afraid to look it over after I submitted it, on the off-chance it turned out to be doggerel. But I did bludgeon Tybalt into reading it, and he didn’t hate it, so I am mostly confident that it doesn’t suck.
You can click here to read up on the contributors (all of whom have way more impressive credentials than I do), and it’s worth noting that with every purchase, a $1 donation will go to both Indigenous Women Rising and Holler Health Justice. Plus anyone who buys The Gorgon’s Guide before November 8 will receive a free e-book version, so if you’re impatient like me, you’ll be able to start reading before your physical copy arrives. Immediate gratification for the win.
I’ve written before about the necessity of magical activism, and as we barrel towards the aftermath of midterm elections, we’re going to find our existence scrutinized and threatened as much as it ever has been. If you want to join the effort to defend and protect religious freedom, civil rights, and bodily autonomy, but you aren’t sure how to go about doing that, The Gorgon’s Guide will serve as an excellent place to start.Oh, and hey: In other news, I ended up on an episode of the Modern Witch podcast with Devin Hunter, which was a lot of fun. We mainly talked about rope bondage. I don’t know why, either. I blame my ADHD. But you should definitely check it out.
I also have a bunch of stuff to talk about that doesn’t involve shameless self-promotion, but I’ll save it for future posts. For now, I’m just glad to be writing on this platform again, and I sincerely appreciate you sticking around long enough for me to publish new content: There is definitely more to come. And my next big deadline isn’t until April, so I won’t be pulling another Houdini until at least March 2023. I figure we can cause a whole mess of mayhem accomplish a lot of things here between now and then.
Onward ho!
