So I’ve really been getting into goatskin Bibles. Recently, Crossway sent me the ESV Heirloom Bible, Omega Edition. This is a beautiful Bible. The cover is amazing to the touch. Goatskin leather beats calfskin any day. This particular cover smells like cowboy boots. Awesome! It’s also the only Bible I’ve ever seen that has four ribbons. The ESV Heirloom Bible, Omega Edition combines elegance with readability. Manufactured with the finest materials, this Bible is printed and bound with unparalleled craftsmanship by Royal... Read more

Recently, a friend of mine told me about premium Bibles. He said that if I ever have a goatskin leather Bible, I’ll never recover. Well, he was right. Goatskin trumps calfskin leather, hands down, walking out. My friend recommended the NKJV Shepherd Bible in Sahara Blue published by Humble Lamb. I’ve got to say, this is the most amazing Bible I’ve ever had the pleasure of handling – and owning – in my life. Stunning. Elegant. Beautiful. Breathtaking. This Bible... Read more

For years, the Thomas Chain Reference Bible has been my favorite go-to Bible. That was true until I discovered The NKJV Study Bible Premium Calfskin Leather, Brown, Full-Color, Comfort Print edition. This is a remarkable Bible! For a study Bible, the notes are not only elegant, but they are solid in content. They don’t skimp. They are better than most other study Bibles I own. In fact, I like this Bible so much I’ve been using it regularly. This beautiful... Read more

The Standard: Discovering Jesus as The Standard for Masculinity is a new book by Josh Khachadourian. I caught up with Josh recently to discuss his book. Enjoy! What is the premise of The Standard? I wrote this book to present Jesus as the Standard for true masculinity. Discovering Jesus as the standard for masculinity is generally unknown. The identity of men is under attack. Countless men are choosing a life of comfort and convenience. While others are striving, driven by... Read more

The NASB Heritage Bible – Passagio Setting from Zondervan is a remarkable Bible. I truly enjoyed handling this unique Bible. There are two aspects to this beautiful Bible that I want to focus on. As you can see from the photo, it comes in a beautiful, protective, sturdy brown clamshell box. But the Bible itself is the real treasure. The Cover The cover is an arresting teal water buffalo leather. It is extremely eye-catching. The feel of this Bible in... Read more

If there’s anything I’ve learned since I’ve been a Christian, it is this: Any solution, cure, or remedy that doesn’t have Jesus Christ as its center is doomed to fail. Here’s what I wrote recently on the Beyond Evangelical blog. Welcome to another Thursday UNFILTERED blog post, the only blog that pretends to like your new haircut. First, thanks for all the insightful comments to last Thursday’s article What Was Jesus’ Central Message on the blog. Since the holidays are... Read more

Kenneth Bailey has written another book on the Bible from a Mediterranean perspective. (See my review of his treatment of Jesus through Middle Eastern eyes.) This one is called Paul Through Mediterranean Eyes: Cultural Studies in 1 Corinthians. 1 Corinthians is one of my favorite letters by Paul of Tarsus. Bailey’s book adds insights and textures from the surrounding culture of the time to the document. He treats most of the controversial passages in the letter and analyzes them in... Read more

Frederick Dale Bruner has just released a new book. It’s called The Letter to the Romans: A Short Commentary. I’m not familiar with Bruner, but I found his commentary interesting. Namely, because it’s an extremely concise interpretation of Romans, which is rare for scholars. He also interacts with other interpreters of Romans from different centuries. Scholars and non-scholars alike. If you teach Romans, you’ll want to add this to your library along with other commentaries on Paul’s masterpiece. You won’t... Read more

In the last several years journaling Bibles have become extremely popular. One of Tyndale’s offerings in this category is The NLT Reflections Bible. Journaling Bibles are usually wide margin Bibles which allow you ample room of lined note space (see photo) for note-taking or reflection or even artwork. This format can be very advantageous as it allows you to have both the text and your thoughts and reflections in one place. Creative people might really enjoy a Bible that has... Read more

Alejandro Field has released a new book. It’s called Pastor Pastor: Feed My Sheep. Recently, I caught up with Alejandro to discuss his book. Enjoy! Go here to read a Spanish version of this interview. When readers ask “what’s your book about?” they are really wanting to know “how is this book going to solve a problem I have?” How would you answer that question? As we read the book, we find ourselves following the stories of two pastors during... Read more
