The Next Great Move of God

The Next Great Move of God April 7, 2015

Back in 2008, I wrote an article that went viral called The Current Move of God.

In it, I outlined 8 characteristics of what I believe to be an exciting current in the next move of God.

Today, Jennifer LeClaire releases a new book called The Next Great Move of God: An Appeal to Heaven for Spiritual Awakening.

In this book, Jennifer outlines a different current of what she believes is part of the next great move of God.

I caught up with Jennifer to ask her some questions about her new book. Enjoy!

Why did you write this book?

Jennifer LeClaire: In 2007, the Holy Spirit woke me up after midnight and poured out His heart about a Third Great Awakening. I wrote this book because I was so stirred by the “appeal to heaven” revelation that Dutch Sheets has been preaching. It stirred hope in me at a time when all I was hearing was doom and gloom. I wanted to bring hope to a nation in crisis—a word in due season that would spur people to believe that God is not done with America. He wants to bring the greatest Great Awakening our nation has ever seen. I believe it’s going to happen.

What do you see as evidences of the “next great move of God” happening right now?

Jennifer LeClaire: I see pockets of true revival springing forth across the nation. I see signs, wonders and miracles manifesting once again. I see more prayer initiatives rising up, including houses of prayers being planted and praying churches getting serious about intercession. I see youth crying out for revival. I see this appeal to heaven flag being presented to politicians and pastors—and even flying over the capitol of Arkansas. I see conferences centered on prayer and revival. I see hope and faith rising among the remnant.

There are many charismatic figures who have been prophesying a great move of God. But who are some non-charismatic Christians who have predicted it?

Jennifer LeClaire: You are right. The charismatics have been prophesying this for many years. But my book is not just full of Pentecostal prophetic types. The Next Great Move of God includes many evangelical voices that agree that God’s discipline is on this nation but a great awakening is at hand. Figures like Franklin Graham are praying for a Third Great Awakening. Greg Laurie is now talking about making an appeal to heaven. Mike Huckabee and Todd Starnes and the late D. James Kennedy are part of the book.

Do you believe that Christians have any responsibility in bringing in the next move of God, or is it simply a sovereign act of God? Explain.

Jennifer LeClaire: I believe Christians absolutely have a role to play—and a responsibility to play—in paving the way for the next great move of God. Although God is sovereign, He chooses to work through our prayers most of the time. When it comes to a Great Awakening, it will require us choosing to turn our hearts back to Him. 2 Chronicles 7:14 (MEV) makes it clear:  “If My people, who are called by My name, will humble themselves and pray, and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” It starts with humility and repentance.

Right now, the body of Christ is divided along moral lines. Some Christians feel that the moral problem of not giving enough care to the poor and the oppressed and failing to address the systemic systems that create poverty and injustice are the key issues of our time. They also feel that the vitriol that Christians hurl at one another over doctrinal differences has got to stop.

Jennifer LeClaire: I do think the vitriol has to stop, but speaking the truth in love must continue. The church is divided along moral lines but the key issue of our time is not poverty. I agree that social justice issues are important, but remember that Jesus said, “The poor you will always have with you” (Mark 14:7).

We should work toward solutions to social injustices but that doesn’t mean we compromise the gospel to do it. We’re seeing those practicing all sort of immorality and perversions behind the pulpit. We’re seeing Christians having abortions. We’re seeing believers beheaded for standing for truth in other nations while leaders here in America pervert the gospel for gain. We need to repent—all of us—and cry out to God for His mercy for failing to care for the poor, yes, but also for allowing antichrist agendas to erode the truth.

Other Christians feel that problems like pornography, abortion, drug abuse, etc. are out of control and more needs to be done to stop them. Both sides are passionate about morality, they just emphasize a different moral problem. Do you see the “next move of God” that you speak about bringing Christians together to fight all of these moral problems and be more gracious and civil toward one another in the areas where they may disagree?

Jennifer LeClaire: Not really. I don’t think there will be a great debate over these issues when the next great move of God rushes in. I think this Third Great Awakening will come after a wave of repentance that sees believers lay down their agendas and seek forgiveness for the strife that is dividing the body even now.

I’m not saying everyone will agree on everything, but I think there will be much more unity and I think the church will be more focused, as a whole, on the major issues, namely making Jesus known. If we spent more time preaching the pure gospel and less time fighting over what the Bible says we’d see God move. You don’t see the apostles in the book of Acts bickering over who’s going to feed the widows or whether or not gay marriage is valid. We need to put the gospel back in the center of our focus and hold fast to the Word of God.

What do you hope readers will walk away with after they finish your book?

Jennifer LeClaire: I want to wake the church up to the grave realities we’re facing in this nation. So many are just blind to it—or they don’t want to see it. Others are apathetic because they don’t believe there is any hope things can truly change—I want to give them hope. Still others are passionately interceding for the nation. I want to encourage them to continue pressing in because their prayers are making an impact, even if it looks right now like things are getting worse on many fronts. Most of all, I want the book to stir people to pray and take faith-inspired action to turn this nation back to God. I want people to believe that God wants to—and indeed can—pour out His Spirit over this nation in a mighty way once again.
