Christian Nationalism is not about faith. It’s not about Jesus. It’s not even about family.
It’s about power. And one of the primary ways it exerts that power is by targeting LGBTQ+ people—and the families who love them.
While draping itself in the language of “God and country,” Christian Nationalism pushes policies and rhetoric that harm the most vulnerable. It’s not just LGBTQ+ individuals under attack. It’s parents who support their kids. It’s families who dare to choose love over conformity.
The Political Weaponization of Faith
Christian Nationalism cherry-picks verses, distorts Scripture, and wraps exclusion in religious language. Under this banner, lawmakers introduce bills that:
-
Restrict gender-affirming care for trans youth—even when parents and doctors agree it’s life-saving.
-
Ban books that tell LGBTQ+ stories.
-
Punish schools for using a child’s correct name or pronouns.
These policies are not about protecting families—they are about controlling them. And they tell LGBTQ+ kids and their families, “You don’t belong.”
The Collateral Damage: Parents Who Affirm Their Kids
Christian Nationalists claim to defend “parental rights,” but they strip away those rights the moment a parent dares to affirm their LGBTQ child. They try to criminalize the very love that saves lives.
Affirming parents are accused of “confusing” their kids, “grooming,” or “going against God.” But the truth is, these parents are embodying God’s love in its purest form—choosing compassion, safety, and truth over fear.
Why LGBTQ+ Families Are a Threat to Christian Nationalism
LGBTQ+ families prove that love cannot be confined by man-made rules. They expose the lie that “family” only comes in one shape or form.
For Christian Nationalists, this is dangerous. Why? Because it undermines the power structure they’re desperately clinging to—a structure that demands rigid gender roles, patriarchal authority, and unquestioned conformity.
When LGBTQ+ families thrive, it sends a powerful message: Love is stronger than fear. Authenticity is stronger than control.
Faith Without Fear
The Jesus we know didn’t demand political power. He didn’t shame families or exclude people. He tore down walls. He lifted up those who were cast aside.
When Christian Nationalism targets LGBTQ+ families, it doesn’t reflect Jesus—it reflects empire. And empire always crumbles in the face of radical love.
The Call to Resist
We need to name this for what it is: Christian Nationalism is not faith—it’s a political agenda that uses religion as a weapon.
And the most powerful way to resist is to live boldly in love.
-
To affirm your LGBTQ child.
-
To speak the truth about God’s love for all people.
-
To create spaces where everyone belongs, no exceptions.
