If You Could See Yourself Through God’s Eyes

If You Could See Yourself Through God’s Eyes

Love you so much

I wish you could see yourself as the true and loving God sees you. I wish you could, for just a moment, see yourself through those eyes. Because you would see yourself as lovely, and whole, and complete. You would see that you lack nothing. You are beautiful, you are full of love.

God loves you exactly as you are. God is also generous that way—God wants the best for you.

Beloved, please, do not look at yourself as flawed—back up a bit. Ask God to show you who you really are. Because you are lovelier than you have ever known.

I know you’ve been hurt. In those hurts you learned to see yourself as broken, even unfixable. But that was a learned viewpoint, not innate.

The true you is unbreakable.

Take a look back at your tiny little self. Weren’t you adorable? Of course you were! You are lovable, and you always have been. Even in your darkest time, you deserve to be loved. Not because what you do but because of who you are.

“The essence of Jesus’ ministry is distilled down into one word: compassion. Jesus made it clear throughout his ministry that the standard of behavior he expected of his followers was not only love of neighbor but love of outcasts and enemies, as well – genuine love, acted upon even at a cost and risk to oneself.” From “Living the Questions”, Rev. Jeff Procter-Murphy and Rev. David Felten

Rob wrote one of our children a little note that touched me deeply. I am including it here for you.

Read it as if it’s written just for you.

sweetie…i want to encourage you. you are a rock star. more amazing than you know—just too much fear. be yourself – nothing more—and you will do well. not because you accomplish or achieve anything – but because of who you are. but you sell yourself short and worry—and that can sabotage things. i pray for you every day—that you just be confident in who you are—and be confident in that. And then everything will fall into place to make you happy and content and peaceful—whatever that may look like – personally, relationship, art, work, love, life.

Keep pressing in. And ask God to show you the real you. Those hurt places will heal, and they will be the fount from which you will draw endless compassion for those similarly hurt.

Trust me, and together we’ll fly.
