Conservatives are in love with Mila Kunis — and for good reason.  First, she’s standing by her (Marine) man and attending the Marne Corps Ball with Sgt. Scott Moore: Next, GQ asked her about sex, and she not only hit the answer out of the park, she also threw in a blast at communism: GQ: Your new movie is called Friends with Benefits. Ever been in one of those relationships? Mila Kunis: Oy. I haven’t, but I can give you my... Read more

Passing by all of the advertisements for “bad teachers,” vampires, and “horrible bosses,” the kids settled into the velour seats at the theater and saw the delightful new movie, “Winnie the Pooh.” Eeyore has lost his tail, and Pooh is very hungry. That’s the entire plot that charmingly inhabits the 73 minutes long movie (including the opening and credits).  But if you can get over paying $10 a ticket for sixty-nine minutes, you will enjoy this throw-back of a film.... Read more

On January 1st, California public schools will be required to teach children about the contributions of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people in their social sciences curriculum.  Gov. Jerry Brown signed the bill on Thursday, in a move that guarantees that the religious liberty of California residents who send their kids to public schools will be violated.  But, the effects will be felt throughout the entire country’s public school systems. I’m the product of public schools, where I learned about... Read more

As we face — like a bad rerun — yet another Washington fiscal crisis with yet another looming deadline, it’s worth remembering the cultural reasons why we got here, and why we may very well stay in crisis for the foreseeable future. If we’ve heard it once, we’ve heard it a thousand times. “Washington is broken.” Given the gift of the most prosperous and powerful economy in human history, our politicians somehow created an unmanageable fiscal monster. Despite high taxes,... Read more

Many of you saw the article I wrote for National Review titled “The NYT Wants Men to be Women” in which I discuss how mothers of young (presumably nursing) children just physically cannot easily leave their kids at home to pursue careers. We give birth and have breasts that nourish, and it’s not men’s fault.  Anyway, I got a lot of hate mail over that one, from women who work who seem to think I was saying that women should... Read more

And if so, how could they let this empirically wrong statement slip into one of their most-read recent essays? The backlash against sex has lasted longer than the sexual revolution itself. Both birth control and abortion are under attack in many states. Women’s health care is considered expendable in budgetary negotiations. And the right wing only wants to champion unborn children. (Those already born are presumed able to fend for themselves.) (Emphasis added). The contention that Christians (or the “right”... Read more

After doing its best to destroy Sarah Palin, the secular Left is coming hard after Michelle Bachmann (with a strong assist from the MSM).  In the Corner today, I discuss why: Why the hate? The secular feminist world view was built around multiple destructive cultural lies: motherhood is a barrier to self-actualization, orthodox religion traps women unhappily in the home, and the only real path to power and happiness is exploding, not upholding, traditional religious values. Yet a mother of... Read more

Politico has a profile of yours truly, which begins: Nancy French signed up to ghostwrite the memoir of a “young Christian person” earlier this year without knowing the identity of the author. To her surprise, she ended up working with a member of the Palin family. “It turned out to be Bristol,” she said. So French, 36, moved from Tennessee to Alaska for a month to help the 20-year-old daughter of former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin tell her story. A... Read more

Because the New York Times asks why can’t you be women: Last week, the New York Times ran a symposium titled “How Can We Get Men to Do More at Home?” The series was prompted because of a recent study showing that German and other European women are making strides in education and in the workplace, but their careers stall once they have children. Why? The Times cites “child care” and “hard-to-quantify traditional ideas about parenting,” among other reasons. They ask,... Read more
