Yesterday’s Blessed Is She prompt for the day was father. So I skipped it. Hey, I’m in the business of truth telling over here. I skipped it because I knew there would be something there, I knew God would put something in my heart I’d have to feel. I skipped it yesterday, but came back to it today. Perhaps that’s a mark of my progress. Of course, the readings smacked me in the face, and then it occurred to me... Read more

Maggie just turned 4, so she has a lot of opinions. As in, all of them. Especially in regards to her clothes. I’m always in awe of people who have a 4 year old they can choose clothing and lay out outfits for. Maggie picks out her own outfit every day, because if she didn’t, it might signify the beginning of the apocalypse. Maggie loves leggings, t-shirts, and dresses. She tolerates jeans. Thus, her wardrobe consists mainly of leggings, t-shirts,... Read more

My birthday is coming again. The knot in my stomach growing just a little each day. Don’t get me wrong, I love my birthday. I always make it a point to do something every year to celebrate, even if it’s just spending time with Atticus and the kids. This year, it falls on Ash Wednesday, so the celebration is today and tomorrow. Today I’m taking the afternoon off for a massage and time to work on a writing project. Tomorrow... Read more

I haven’t done 7QT in a long time, but after my post earlier this week, it occurred to me that perhaps a follow up post with some practical suggestions for self-care would be helpful. I remember when I was struggling so much, that even just basic self-care seemed like Mt. Everest. If you found yourself reading earlier in the week thinking, “Yeah, but how do I do this?” then I hope one of these tips might help! I polled some... Read more

“Rising very early before dawn, he left and went off to a deserted place, where he prayed. Simon and those who were with him pursued him and on finding him said, “Everyone is looking for you.” -Mark 1:35-37   Any parent who has planned to get up “before the kids” in order to have some time to yourself, only to find bleary-eyed offspring stumbling out of their bedrooms into the kitchen before the first sip of coffee has hit your... Read more

I had three very cute blog posts written in my head, celebrating each of the children’s birthdays and then in the busyness of the holidays and the house stuff, they never made it from my head to the page. So, here they are. A day (or month) late and a few dollars short, a little birthday shout out to each of my beautiful babies. We are selling our house. Actually, it’s already a pending sale, just days after going on the market. Our house. The first home that Atticus and I ever owned. All of our children were born while we lived here. Two of them took their first steps here. (Charlie may before we are gone.) The decision to move was made quite a while ago. Really, the knowledge we’d have to move…eventually…came the day we saw two heartbeats on the ultrasound screen.... Read more

This week is Catholic schools week, and although our children are not yet school aged, I wanted to talk a little bit about how and why we have chosen Catholic schooling for our children’s education. It wasn’t an obvious decision for either of us, Atticus and I having both attended public schools for K-12. I did not attend a Catholic school until college, and Atticus did not until law school. We may have entered late into the game, but when... Read more

Well, by now everyone who doesn’t live under a rock has heard the Pope’s comments from his recent trip to Manila. He made quite a few beautiful remarks about large families, being open and generous when welcoming children. Then he made such a splash with “rabbit-gate”, I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to see a bunny the same way again. To be perfectly honest, when I read the first few comments about it, I rolled my eyes. I’ve... Read more

You all are so wonderful. Thank you for the comments, emails and general love after my earlier post. It was a relief to write it and push “publish”. And in case anyone was in fear of missing me too much, here I am, back again. It’s been a long week and I am, once more, struggling to make everything fit, and falling far short. It started Monday with a weight watchers meeting where I walked in feeling so defeated by... Read more
