Cranach Year in Review

Cranach Year in Review December 29, 2009

One way I celebrate the New Year is to look back upon the year that has just gone by. I do that by looking at the various “year in review” features, as well as by contemplating the year gone by in my own life. This year we also move into a new decade, so we can also think about the “decade in review.” We’ll be playing around with some of that in this blog as we count down to the new year.

But what about the Cranach blog itself? Let’s review last year on this blog. Here are what my software has determined are the “most viewed” posts and the “most commented upon” posts for 2009.

MOST VIEWED POSTS:

(1) The percentage of Christians in America is dropping March 10, 2009

(2) ELCA completely embraces homosexuality

(3) Jimmy Carter is no longer a Baptist? July 22, 2009

(4) What’s with the Common Table Prayer? March 10, 2009. [By the way, I now support the use of the Common Table Prayer (“Come, Lord Jesus, be our guest, and let thy gifts to us be blest”) and we have started using it. I see now–and I forget what opened my eyes to it–that it stresses Christ’s presence, His initiative, and His gifts.)

(5) Theistic Evolution June 11, 2009

MOST COMMENTED UPON POSTS:

(1) The false gospel of moralism 207 comments

(2) Jimmy Carter is no longer a Baptist? 202 comments

(3) Gay ordination vs. women’s ordination 183 comments

(4) Iowa Supreme Court legalizes gay marriage 155 comments

These are all from 2009. The record for most comments was from July 2008: An Atheist’s Testimony, continued 232 comments. This was the sequel to an earlier post with 100 comments. Michael the Little Boot had told us about how he moved from Christian fundamentalism to atheism. In these two posts, Cranach readers put aside their differences and tried to reach him with the Gospel. (Michael the Little Boot, are you still out there? Are you still an atheist, or has God broken through your defenses? We invite you to make an appearance.)

Why do you think these posts were, in the first case, so popular and, in the second case, provoked so much discussion? What does all of this tell us about this blog and about you, the readers of this blog?

Were there other posts that stand out in your mind for one reason or the other? tODD nominated the picture in the Santa accused of promoting obesity post as the funniest Cranach moment of the year, but weren’t there any that were funnier? Any that were especially inspirational or thought-provoking or otherwise useful to you?
