Note to Subscribers

Note to Subscribers April 8, 2022

Thanks to those of you who bit the bullet and subscribed to this blog.  I was very glad to see so many of my long-time readers who are staying with me.  Now that you are actually paying for it, I will work harder than ever to make this blog worth your $5 per month.

Sorry for the glitches and confusions as all of this has been rolling out.  Hopefully, things will settle down soon.

I have been putting subscribers on the “trusted” list, which should exempt you from the nanny-bot that Disqus uses to block posts that have “restricted” words (such as “beer”).  Actual bad words, of course–that is to say, obscenities–are against the rules of this blog, but I’ll try to deal with those myself.   You’ll need to make a comment before I can put you on the approved list, and I’m hearing that some people whom I’ve cleared are still having trouble with the nanny-bot, but we’ll be working on that.

I wanted you to know that I have ideas for some special things I’d like to do with you subscribers.  (No, Tom, I don’t have Cranach t-shirts or other swag, at least right now, though maybe later.)

My goal is to form a true “virtual community”–not in the social media sense or in any touch-feely sense–but one where we can, to a certain extent, know each other and be able to communicate on that basis.  We can also have discussions on a wide variety of issues–including those you suggest–apart from my having to post about them.  We can also pray for each other in times of need.  (I’ll be open to other ideas.  Feel free to raise them here or in what will follow.)

Already I have noticed a jump in the quality of our discussions–as in the nuclear weapons post (sorry if it ruined your day)–with no trolls or flamethrowers, and yet with different positions and a genuine range of opinion.

My efforts in this regard will need to wait until I get back from Australia to the good old U.S.A.   That will happen soon, the Wednesday after Easter.  Until then, I can’t really interact with you or the blog in real time.  (By the time I wake up in the morning in Adelaide, the day is pretty much over in America.  (Right now, it’s 8:17 a.m. on Saturday, April 9, where I am.  It’s 6:47 p.m. on Friday, April 8, on the American east coast.)

So please hang in there with me and we’ll get going in a week or so.
