Today is Darwin’s 200th birthday. He’s being hailed today as never before. Indeed, he is the necessary prophet of today’s materialistic worldview. I think Darwinism is being exalted now precisely to counter the rise of creationism and the scientific threat of intelligent design. If Darwin Day becomes the Christmas of a new secular liturgical calendar, how would it be celebrated? What would the greeting cards say? What would the traditional Darwin Day family dinner have on the menu? Or would the sentiments of Darwin Day intrinsically squelch the sort of happiness that goes with Christian holy-days?
