Only Jesus

Only Jesus

“Only Jesus”, I read these two words quite often in the types of books and blogs I frequent, but for whatever reason, they echoed down the halls of my heart when I read them earlier this week.  I couldn’t begin to remember which site I was on, but they spoke to me in a much more significant way.

Look at the story of the woman at the well (Jn. 4:4-26).  She tried multiple times to fill her heart with illegitimate relationships, only to realize that the only One who could fill her heart, ease her mind, and satisfy her soul was Jesus.  She reminds me of each of us who have ever been addicted to porn or sex.  Trying to find total fulfillment in a moment of steamy passion with another person will fail ever single time.  No one else on Earth can make a life complete.  Only Jesus.

There’s the stories of multiple rock stars, movie stars, and others who have had easy access to various kinds of mind-altering drugs, trying to fill a void  or be “taken away”, even if only for a moment.  I’m thankful for the stories of those who later realized that getting out of their current circumstance and experiencing true freedom comes from only one relationship.  Only Jesus.

  • Only Jesus can give lasting joy and peace.
  • Only Jesus can heal a broken heart.
  • Only Jesus can give Hope to the Hell you’re walking through.

No house or car, no relationship, no amount of fortune or fame, nothing can give your life worth.  Only Jesus.  No book, no amount of meditation, no number of days in rehab, no psychiatrist, and no twelve-step program can give you all the answers.  Only Jesus.  As we stammer and struggle to fill every void in our hearts, there is only one single thing that can transform our situation.  Only Jesus.

If you have “too much on your plate” and are “burning the candle at both ends” constantly, I pray that today you will be greatly encouraged.  I ask that the “peace I leave with you” (Jn. 14:27), which Jesus promised us, will wrap up your heart today and that you will soak up and breathe-in the presence of the Holy Spirit.
