Craving Hope

In a previous job, I watched weekly training/motivation webinars from a guy named Grant Cardone. The thing he said that has stuck out the most is “Give people hope and they will follow you.” The quote takes me back to my family’s time in Alaska, when this thought came to me, “Hope is a commodity.” It’s true!

We all crave the hope of:

• Good news.
• Potential.
• Positive change.

What do you hope for today?

• A new job?
• A new car?
• A new house?
• A new child?

One polarizing figure is the current President of the United States of America, Barack Obama. He landed himself in the White House with words of “hope”. Check out this quote:

“Hope is not blind optimism. It’s not ignoring the enormity of the task ahead or the roadblocks that stand in our path. It’s not sitting on the sidelines or shirking from a fight. Hope is that thing inside us that insists, despite all evidence to the contrary, that something better awaits us if we have the courage to reach for it, and to work for it, and to fight for it. Hope is the belief that destiny will not be written for us, but by us, by the men and women who are not content to settle for the world as it is, who have the courage to remake the world as it should be.”


Jesus Christ was another extremely polarizing figure who gained masses of followers by His message of Hope.

Again he said, “What shall we say the kingdom of God is like, or what parable shall we use to describe it? It is like a mustard seed, which is the smallest seed you plant in the ground. Yet when planted, it grows and becomes the largest of all garden plants, with such big branches that the birds of the air can perch in its shade.”

Look at the Hope in the passage above, from the Book of Matthew! Jesus speaks of the potential that we have, even if our present ability seems small. We all have the potential for greatness!

What incredible Hope!

Maybe you’re more of a fan of Ronald Reagan, who said this, “There are no great limits to growth because there are no limits of human intelligence, imagination, and wonder.”
Whether you’re a supporter of these three leaders or not, it seems hard to imagine them having such influential leadership without their words of Hope.

Hope gives the abused the courage to leave the house.

Hope is the single mother who works a day job, goes to night school, and loves her children the best way she knows how.

Hope bends but doesn’t break.

Hope is a gritting of the teeth, a furrowing of the brows, and a digging in of heels.

Hope is an anchor.
