Have you ever wondered of the perspective of the thief who was nailed to the cross next to Jesus on Calvary?

Can a thief go to heaven?

How does someone get to heaven?

Pastor Colin Smith addressed these questions in his book, Heaven, How I Got Here: A Night with the Thief on the Cross, which was adapted into a play and now a film. The dialogue is based on the Luke 23 account of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, the pivotal event of Christianity. The death of Jesus Christ is remembered on Good Friday; his resurrection is celebrated on Easter Sunday.

The 60-minute film, “Heaven How I Got Here,’ stars actor Stephen Baldwin. In this one-man production, Baldwin portrays various characters, and offers a glimpse into what that moment on Calvary might have been like from the perspective of the thief from heaven.

According to ChristianCinema.tv, Baldwin said,

“I have done many performances throughout my career but perhaps none has so personally impacted me as my role as the thief. Pastor Colin Smith’s masterful story of the real-life struggles and thoughts of a man that ultimately found himself dying just a few feet from Jesus will leave viewers walking away considering their own life. If Jesus could save the thief just hours before he died, there is hope for anyone, no matter what their circumstances might be.”

Smith’s book was first adapted into a one-man play in 2015 and performed at The Orchard Evangelical Free Church in Arlington Heights, Illinois.

The 60-minute film was produced by LIGHTBEAMedia and Unlocking the Bible, and directed by Timothy Gregory of Chicago’s Provision Theater Company.
